First Car/ High Mileage

Hey guys, this is my first post. I'm about to be buying my first car, and am highly considering a used g35. I'm probably going to get a 2004 coupe with around 80-90k miles for $12k. My question is would this be a a good first car? and should I be worried about any big repairs at this mileage? Thanks.

This is NOT a good first car. Besides the fact that it is too much power for a youngin, it has costly electrical components and little things that make the cost of ownership too great for anyone without a steady job. Pick up a car that is safe, reliable, and will last 300k. G's will last 250k if treated right.

I got a 2003 g35 with 94k miles on it for 11k. Im only 18 btw, very fun car to drive and what the guy above said is true. It really does have to much power for a youngin haha.. Like I could seriously go 100 on it on the freeway without even knowing im going that fast, really wreckless on my part -_- But yeah it does cost alot to maintain.. premium gas puts a dent in your wallet without a steady pay.. and of course you will fall in love with mods. i used for 2k on my car within the first 2 weeks of owning it.
I have some problems with my g35 as well, my dome lights dont work and i have some window problem where it keeps going back down after i close it. So in the end it is very pricy to maintain but fun to drive =)

Original Poster (OP), What are you trying to get out of a car? Looks, performance, popularity, reliability? These are questions you must ask yourself and then go do a basic car search.

Krilla, do you mean if this were the track (below) with the leftmost edge being the bottom, it would go up and then immediately back down, then pausing for 3-4 seconds? I noticed this when I went straight to auto up on the drivers door. As for the lights, check relays man.

Yeah exactly like that, it only happens when i auto up the windows as well, what do you mean check the relays? apparently the mechanic told me my BCM wasnt receiving a signal from the dome lights so idk.. might double check with another mechanic soon though

For the MAP light, Krilla. But if your mech told you otherwise he has seen it in person where I have not.

As for the auto window up thing:

There are 5 positions for the window switch: << Auto Down >>, <Down>, Rest, <Up>,<<Auto Up>>. When you have the window down all the way and skip from Resting to <<Auto Up>> our little microcontroller freaks out and resets the window motor. This is that little odd instantaneous Up & Down motion of the window.

Solution (Temporary I assume): Only pull the window swtich into the <Up> position, not to <<Auto Up>>, and after 1 second pull into <<Auto Up>>. My window has done this since I bought it. Maybe it is on the way out. Hope this helps.

I've done a ton of research. I have a pretty good amount of experience working on cars with my grandpa who owns a local car shop, so I can do basic maintenance myself. I also know I can handle the power, as I have driven my buddies 350z on the track and street without any problem. My goal for a car is a great looking, reliable (as far as mileage), fast, 4 seat sports car, and the g35 is where I've had my mind set for a while

Money isn't a problem, I have a very good job for my age, thanks to an oppurtinuty I was given by my highschool. Do you have any regrets about buying the car? I'll be 17 when I purchase it so me and you aren't that far a part as far as age at the time of buying

Depending on where you live, you might want to consider my car that I'm selling. It' has a lot less miles and only slightly more. No repairs needed either. I'm in Miami, FL.
