I'm a girl, so I don't know anything about cars. I have a 2004 Altima right now, and I love it. But I've always wanted a G35 I've just never been able to afford one. My little brother's best friend got one so I was looking at them on craigslist yesterday and I found a 2004 G35 coupe for $5,800. The AD says it has 150,000 miles on it and I texted the guy and asked if it had ever been wrecked and he said no. He said there's a crack on the bumper, it needs a new headlight and it needs a new crank shift sensor or something like that. He said he's selling it because he just got the breaks and routers fixed and he can't afford to get a new headlight or the sensors so he needs to down grade. But, my dad is a mechanic so he can fix all that for cheap. He said in the AD that he would possibly trade and I told him I would trade him my 2004 Altima with 122,000 miles and he said he would do it so I'm supposed to meet with him in a couple hours to test drive it. 5,800 was atleast 2,000 less than all the other G35's on craigslist. Also, he said it's a clean title. So I don't know if there has to be something wrong with it that he's not telling me for this price. I don't know if I should even waste my time looking at it!! Helpppppp!
something aint right with it. I wouldn't trust it.
that's way to cheap even with those problems.
if your dad is a mechanic, why dont you have him go with you to check out the car? or have the seller meet you somewhere your dad can look at it?
If you really want a g35, find a nice one at a dealership, and trade in your altima toward it.

I would probably use kbb.com as a guide for pricing and expect that most cars will be either slightly higher or slightly lower depending on condition. If one is priced well below, then this would be a red flag and I expect that it may have a salvage title (car totaled by an insurance company, then bought back and put together). You can also run a Carfax on the vehicle (nominal charge) and get the VIN and check the Dealer service records as well. Of course none of this is full proof, but it helps add a few data points to validate any claims made by the owner.
Carfax report asap. Also your dad might be able to do the work but keep in mind parts for the car aint cheap. Not to mention premium gas, higher insurance, 150k on it means there's lots of work to be done. A 2004 with that many miles means its driven harder or more so than the national average. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is hate to say it. I bought my 05 with 75k on it for $4000 less than blue book thinking it was a steal and it ended up leaving me stranded multiple times until i sunk the $4000 i saved on buying it initially into the thing.
I'd pass.
I'm familiar with G35's and working on cars but this is shaping up to be a potential problem car.
Little advice..sometimes it's better to spend $1-2K more for a car and come out with something cleaner, and in better mechanical shape.
Saving money buy buying a cheap fixer-upper usually only saves you money if you can do all the work yourself, know what you are doing and can get the parts cheaply.
Don't let your desire to get a G35 cause you to make a poor decision.

yea I told the guy to meet me at my dads shop so he could look at it and all of the sudden he changed his mine and didn't want to meet up anymore. Then later last night he said he'll sell it to me for 5500 instead of 5800 so I think there's alot more wrong with it than what he's saying. Thank you guys!!!
