Yay or Nay?
Yay or Nay?
Hello everyone. Great to be here. I'm new to the forum... But not to the forum world, and generally contributing DIY's that are helpful to others... I have a question for you all... I found myself in a friends brand new G37 Journey with Nav and whatnot... Smokin' lease deal... So, I liked how easy it was to get in and out of, especially since I just herniated 3 discs in my lower back, it's hard to get in and out of my CLK Mercedes.... I was immediately taken by how well built and eqipped with toys I've been wanting. I was going to go for a C55AMG, but I'm more interested in the options and interior styling. I went in to Infiniti, and the lease for me because of negative equity and credit would be insane, $535 a month. So, I'm looking used, I found a 2007 G37S, Auto, paddle shifters, no sport brakes, which is ok with me, white on black and light interior, which I hadn't seen, but I like... Navigation, Tech Package, the works, basically everything but the bigger brakes (I'm not sure what that option is called, I guess they would be brembo's as they were in the early years)... It's clean, 72K miles... Franchise Dealer (chevy dealer) typical issues of trim pealing which is fine. Is there anything I should be worrying about with 72K miles on it? I will be putting on 13-15K per year on the highway... I'm used to my CLK's un-beatable reliability, the trans at 100k shifts like the day it rolled off the assembly line. What should I be looking for during the test drive? Is the sport suspension extremely hard? I'm used to European Suspension where it's stiff, but also tolerable and, surprisingly smoother as you go faster, which is why I drive, ah hem, quickly on the freeway. Let me know if this is a decent car to look at, or if I should just go for a lease on a 2013. Thank You Very Much, look forward to being an active member on here and meeting new friends here.
I am not the type to lease a car in the first place. I would go with used. i have seen threads about cracks in the dash of the car. be sure to look it over well, but i have not heard anything bad mechanically.
72K miles really isn't a big deal provided it's been maintained. All cars these days can easily surpass 100K with car, and most should make it to 150K. I know I have 140K miles on mine with very minor issues. It still drives like when it had 5 miles on it when i bought it.
In terms of Benz vs Infniti...being a benz owner myself...Infiniti is far cheaper to maintain/repair than Benz, and in my opinion, more reliable.

I would be very skeptical of them selling you a 2007 G37S since they dont exist. I am going to assume you ment 2008. Also why would a G37S be lacking the sport brakes (Akebonos) that it came equiped with from the factory, did someone remove them? What were they asking for it? 72k miles wont be a big issue. G37 is a pretty reliable car, VQ engine has been paised for a decade for reliability. Most of the common issues that plauge the G37 are small, like seat leather bubbles, dash peels, leaking passenger window, the 7 speed is know for 4th gear shifting issues but thats only on 09-12 models.
Here are all the ITB, ie known issues by Infiniti. You may or may not experience any of the issues on the list.

Also the whole leasing vs buying is a personal choice. Depends on your finances and desires, not really a quesiton others can answer.
Personally the only time I would consider a lease is if it is a subvented lease with crazy high residual value. Also leasing doesnt really seem like a good idea for your situation if you plan on putting 15k miles a year on it, you will be hit with a big milage premium.

Yes and no.
If you buy a car new, and drive 15K miles per year and sell it after 3 years..depending on the car you are gonna take a huge depreciation hit. 3 year old car with 45K miles would be worth less than one with the average 30-36K miles. So depending on the residual value of the lease, it may be cheaper to do a high mileage lease, vs buy the car.....especially if you plan to keep it short term.
The decision to lease or buy really rests on the individual as what works for me, might not work for you and so on.

Mileage really doesnt make as much of a difference as you would believe. Example, a 2010 G37S with exact same options and condition with 30k miles vs 45k miles is only a 1300 dollar value difference according to KBB and 1100 dollar difference according to NADA. Trade in value difference was only about 600 dollars.
According to my local Infiniti dealer I called, a 15k mile lease instead of a 10k mile will increase monthly payments 80 dollars a month or 3100 dollars over the course of the lease (based on price of Infiniti currently offered 39 month lease). Still cheaper than paying the milage penalty, but not much. This is only one minor aspect to consider. Usually insurance is cheaper on a lease with most carriers too.
Yes you are 100% that everyones choice on car and lease/purchase isnt the same. Everyone has differnet needs and desires.

That's what it really comes down to when it comes to lease vs buy so it's hard to compare numbers and say what is "best"
