looking to buy an '04 G35 w/ 65K miles
HI, im looking to purchase an '04 G35 coupe with 65,000 miles on it. service records show maintenance for up to 42K miles, don't know where car was serviced for the latter 20K...will ask seller next week.
Autocheck says clean title no accidents. seller says no accidents and car maintained well. he's asking for 13,500...
do '04 G35s have less likelihood for oil consumption issues??
well anyway is this a good sound purchase? will appreciate member input, thanks. and please ask if I left any vital info that could impact a purchase.

Price sounds a little high, but it depends on the condition.
How are the tires? Brakes? Paint? Interior? Auto or manual? If it's manual, it's about due for a clutch if it has not already been done, life is right around 60k miles.
If it has good/new tires, good brakes, good paint and interior, and it's a manual with the clutch already replaced, I'd jump on it and it's worth $13,500.
I paid less for an '05 with 43K miles, but it needed tires and had a few small dings. So I had to pay for new tires and my paintless dent removal guy got most of the dings out. Then changed every fluid, filter, wipers, and belts. I went ahead and put brakes and rotors on it since I'm keeping the car for a while and wanted an upgrade, so now I've got about $15,000 in it, but plan on driving it for the next 10 years. Still need to change spark plugs.
'04 had less oil consumption issues, but like said, all have the potential.

I don't know how accurate this rating is but auto check gave this car a score range between 72 and 84 and this specific car scored 88.
If the clutch has not been changed recently then I will most likely have to in near future and I read that takes at least a couple grand to do. So I guess I can request him to lower a couple grand due to that, hopefully It works out
I can't comment on the rest of the items asked because I'm not an expert really, will have to get that infiniti inspection done and then I'll let you know. It is a manual and has had 3 previous owners although service records have been regular for first 42K out of the total 65K.
Thanks

I have te to make an appointment with seller and look at car in person, but judging from pics paint, exterior, interior, looks great. Tires look new but i will have to replace them anyway with snow tires if they aren't already snow tires so that's a grand there too.
to be very blunt here, I've always wanted a G35, pretty much favorite car, so if there are no major issues and the infiniti inspection gives an ok, I will go ahead and make the purchase. I am going to ask for 11,000 straight out the door...I think 10,000 - 10,500 would be pushing it maybe

An '04 coupe with only 65K miles on it's clock and in good condition is a good find and worth $13K I could care less what Edmonds says! Try and find a '04 on a lot with low mileage what are they asking for it? Most '04 you'll find on lots will have well over 100K on them, that's what sells for $10K not the coupe with half that mileage!

Yes, any infiniti stealership would be more than happy to take your money.
However, there is nothing about a clutch change that would require a dealership to do the work. Any good, reliable independent mechanic should be able to do it. I think around 400 for labor would be a fair price. Just get the clutch you want on line.
I wouldn't worry about the clutch until it starts slipping. Having gone through many, many clutches in my life, they rarely fail in a day, though that is possible. They usually start slipping a little on hard acceleration, but drive fine on cruise and easy acceleration. So once it starts to go, you'll have time to order one and get an appointment at a shop if you are gentle with it.
