Looking at trading my Cobalt SS for a G35 but there's a problem..

So i have an 06 cobalt ss supercharged. Pretty decent little car. I'm looking at trading it for a g35 for the RWD, the sound and for the luxury, but mostly because its worth more. From a performance standpoint they're pretty much on par (believe it or not). Stock the g is faster by a little bit but my car is stage 2 so my cars probably a bit faster.

Anyway enough of that. I'm looking at a silver 04 6MT coupe with 195k km on it, comes with 2 sets of wheels, valid etest but needs a safety. He says it might need a power steering pump, i asked him to describe the problem, heres what he said "Ya theres fluid in it and its a little stiff to turn aspecially stoped but it still has some assist if your driving its not hard to turn its not leaking anywere i jacked it up and looked underneath it and didnt see anything..." Anybody know if i should go for this or not? my cars worth 5500 to sell it at, 6500 to advertise it, hes asking 7500 as is. I would end up selling the g35 in a year anyways for a bmw 335i so its not like ill have it for long, i just want to move up to something of more value and thats a bit nicer. Should i go for it and what do you think the problem will be and how much will it cost? im in ontario btw, prices of these cars may vary where you live. These are still pretty expensive here where i live tho.

"Dont have time to get safety" done is usually code for, it won't pass.

Really a 2004 G35 isnt much of an upgrade from a Cobalt SS. You are best off keeping your Cobalt for a year until you get the 335i.

You know your own car much better than the one he's selling. It sounds like it'll last you worry free until you get the bmw. No use getting into his ex problem.

Plus who buys a car for a year? Only reason to buy a G anymore is if you like the styling and plan on keeping and loving it. Its an old dog now. Its a cool old dog, but you'll be sinking a LOT of dough in it to catch up on maintenance.

That doesn't mean you bought each one with the intention of keeping it for a year.

Most were owned only for about 6 months and were purchased knowing they would be gone in less than a year. Only 2 cars I ever owned for more than a year were my G37 and last Wrangler. Horribly poor financial choices, but I am far from only person to be like that either.

Damn...haha I used to have a friend who did that constantly. Like he liked losing money on cars or something. I understand getting bored of cars, but damn. Why wouldn't you just buy a piece of **** if it was an intentional burner?

I once bought a burner truck for $1200 strictly to have a utility vehicle. Had a cracked head, and I just put some bars leak in it to patch it up and STILL had that truck for 3 years and 56k miles. Haha

Ic, yeah ill prolly just stick with my car then.. I just thought it might be a good idea considering its worth more so i could pay a couple thousand less when it comes time to buy the bmw. But i see what you guys are saying about how it will need lots of work. Thanks for the help guys, probably wont be hearing from me again unless i come back with a g37s in a couple years but thats not likely.
