Considering an 05 G35 coupe 6mt - 2 questions

Good: Interior is near perfect. Drives just fine and has a clean CarFax with no wrecks. Car has 105k miles and I've got him down to 5k.

Bad: Paint on the hood sucks, headlights are heavily oxidized. Aftermarket manifold (kinectix knockoff), AEM Cold air intake, unknown y pipe exhaust. With the mods, it just doesn't seem as fast as it should be. I drove a bone stock G37 Sedan with a 7AT and it would have stomped this coupe. I took it to autozone and it has a bad o2 sensor and an evap leak. Would this cause the car to be down on power? Maybe the previous owner trying to increase airflow on the wrong end of the engine (stock exhaust manifold & cats)?

I've read theVQ35DE is noisy...this thing is really noisy. There is a tick noise at idle. Too loud to be a misfire and not quite loud enough to be valve or lifter tick. The sound disappears after the car heats up and disappears if you apply any amount of throttle. Is this normal?

I like the car, l Iike the price. I'm going to take it by a mechanics shop tomorrow and have someone more knowledgable than me check it out.

I'd stay away. Seems like some cheap a$$ with no knowledge tried to make a car he could drive into the ground and now wants to get rid of it cuz he ended up screwing it up. Sounds like a headache.

I'm ok with a minor headache. It's the migraine that worries me. I'd hate to pass something up that just needs minor fixes to be a decent driver or a potential flip.

This G wasn't taken care of and the owner did some cheap fugly mods on top to that! Ticking engine noise is not good! Our VQs have a sweet exhaust note using the right systems plus there's no need to replace the exhaust manifolds with headers, very little gain! Most of the restriction in the system are those OE converters. Walk away, this ride may give your pocketbook a migraine or worse...Gary
