2005 Coupe 6MT $18k
Hello All. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2005 Coupe 6MT from a customer of mine. It has been garaged and only has 14,000 miles on it. He is asking $18,000 for it which is not negotiable (he has multiple cars and is not hard up for money). Is $18,000 worth it? He is asking much more than the KBB value, but I don't think KBB takes into account its basically brand new condition. Are G35's reliable? I've always purchased new cars and I am a little weary on spending that much money on a 11 year old car.
Thanks for your input!

I'd deff get it if I was in the market for one. I'd probably get it if I wasn't. Id retire mine 204k G and switch to that one.
Well worth it IMO.
For a long term car (not something you'll try selling in coupe of years) it's worth it.
If you only planning to keep it for 3 to 5 years, not worth it IMO. You can get a cheaper one under 100k.
I just sold a 67k in very very very good condition for $7500.
Granted it had a rebuilt title, but the damage was insignificant and did not diminish integrity of the frame. For a vehicle you planning to keep to up to 5 years, I'd go with the $7500 car.
For a vehicle you planning to keep for 10+ years, I'd go with $18k car just because of the millage and the one owner record.

Don't complicate and confuse the issue or OP with unnecessarily specific idiosyncrasies. Any car of any year from any make or manufacturer will have some instances of oil consumption here and there if you look in a large enough pool of test subjects if you want to be exact. The fact is is that it's way more common on the 05'-06 Rev-up motors than any other year G35/VQ motor, and was actually acknowledged by Nissan and covered under a warranty repair.

Whatever OP decides a $125 inspection at an Infiniti dealer is definitely on order. I was in a similar position with my 03 Coupe last year. One owner who was also an acquaintance, no winters, full service records and less than 35,000 miles. Despite all that I still paid the dealer for an inspection.
The dealer didn't find much other than come curb rash on both rims, some rock chips on the front bumper and a scuff on the rear bumper drivers corners but they did find a sweaty steering rack and and wrote in the report it would eventually start leaking and need replacement. They gave an estimate and we took it to an independent who said since it's only driven sparingly it's good for quite a bit more before it gets serious. He gave us his estimate, I bartered with the owner and we came to a fair discount for the future repair. Point is there may be some stuff that isn't obvious, the owner may not even know. Get it inspected and barter for anything that needs fixing. An original mint 6mt is a rare beast, most have been abused and modded to hell and back. It's a great car, can't wait to take out mine soon. Partyman, I'll be posting for some help soon lol...

you clearly painted 05-06 as being the only years with it. Your words not mine.
Then you say "way more common" on 05-06- clearly acknowledging the fact that while more prevalent, other years still suffered
We're both helping out op. Leave it at that.
Covering all bases here not "unnecessary idiosyncrasies. Cool word-but not particularly meaningful or well used.
Op
All years to some degree had it. None were exempt. Plenty of guys on this forum with all years both auto and manual can attest.
This is why you need to check everything out thoroughly beforehand

then don't complicate it at first by saying "keep in mind 05-06 6mt had OC issues"-you're the one leading him astray to begin with right then and there

The fact of the matter is that he's looking at a car that might be affected by the Oil Consumption problem and the whole point of me saying that was to let him know so he can take precautions prior to making a purchase. I did not lead him astray as you claim.
