possible purchase of 6MT coupe

Hello, I test drove a 2004 6MT coupe today with the brembo kit, navigation, but no aero package. I have spent quite some time in the recent week reading a lot of threads on here. I currently own a '97 Honda Prelude (5 speed manual) which has been good to me. Prior to that, I owned 3 Maximas and was active on the mailing list and then the forums for awhile.

I found a very nice 2004 6MT coupe with about 10K on it and drove it for the first time today. I made the following impressions and associated questions and would like to hear anyones input or thoughts on the following, or anything else in general.

1. First, when I depressed the clutch quickly, I could hear clutch chatter or shutter for a second. It would happen repeatedly, everytime I quickly depressed the clutch, but maybe that is normal? Shifter is more notchy than my Hondas.

2. As I was moving slow in 2nd gear within a neighborhood, when I depressed the accelerator a little and then came off of it, I heard a clicking noise in the back as I depressed the accelerator. I wonder what that was, but it sounded as if it were around the exhaust area under the rear of the car. Normal and aggressive launches and everything else seemed normal.

3. I feel the engine / drivetrain vibration on the shifter. I suspect this is normal since it is probably directly above the transmission? My Prelude doesn't have this vibration. It doesn't bother me, but I just wanted to know if it is normal.

4. Felt a slight synchro grind one one of about 3 full throttle accelerations from 1-2. It may have been a mis-timing by me, but only happened once. Given my read from the current owner, this was probably the first time the car was shifted at this aggressive level, so maybe it was break-in? I read on the forums here that there have been 3 generations of changes for the synchros, where does the O4 fall?

5. As for the Warranty, what does a buyer need to do after purchase from a private party to assure that a transfer of warranty takes place?

6. Lastly, there exists some curb rash on one of the wheels. What is involved in remedying this, how much money? I have heard approx $150 / wheel.

7. Where can I read about the various options and packages? I'm continuing to search, but haven't found this yet. For example, as I mentioned, the 6MT coupe has the Brembos, but not the aero kit, does it also have a more aggressive suspension or anything else, given the Brembo package?

8. Anything else I should be aware of or investigate before moving forward.

Thank you in advance for addressing any of these items I listed. I'm up against a pretty big decision and hope to make an informed one, as I continue to read this forum and learn about this vehicle.

If you take it to the higher RPM's beofre shifting i do feel more tranny or engine vibration i wouldn't call it chatter but def audible

2. As I was moving slow in 2nd gear within a neighborhood, when I depressed the accelerator a little and then came off of it, I heard a clicking noise in the back as I depressed the accelerator. There is a TSB about that that has to with the rear drivetrain

3. I feel the engine / drivetrain vibration on the shifter. I suspect this is normal since it is probably directly above the transmission? My Prelude doesn't have this vibration. It doesn't bother me, but I just wanted to know if it is normal.

Normal
4. Felt a slight synchro grind one one of about 3 full throttle accelerations from 1-2. It may have been a mis-timing by me, but only happened once. There is another TSB that deals with the Tranny replacement for the '03-'04 that would be done under warranty

5. As for the Warranty, what does a buyer need to do after purchase from a private party to assure that a transfer of warranty takes place?

Best bet is to ask at the Infiniti Dealer

6. Lastly, there exists some curb rash on one of the wheels. What is involved in remedying this, how much money? I have heard approx $150 / wheel.

Might as well just get a replacement from Ebay i seen them cheap

7. Where can I read about the various options and packages? I'm continuing to search, but haven't found this yet. For example, as I mentioned, the 6MT coupe has the Brembos, but not the aero kit, does it also have a more aggressive suspension or anything else, given the Brembo package?

I believe the 6MT already came with the sport suspension and VLSD Rear

8. Anything else I should be aware of or investigate before moving forward.

I would take it to a Infiniti Dealer and pay for a inspection and if anything needs to be fixed under warranty let the previous owner handle it so it doesn't become your headache

Thank you in advance for addressing any of these items I listed. I'm up against a pretty big decision and hope to make an informed one, as I continue to read this forum and learn about this vehicle.

I think he is talking about when you are just sitting still or barely moving and push the clutch in fast. It makes a kind of clanking noise, I believe it is normal, but if it isn't I need to get my car fixed

Yes, that is what I reference, when I just am sitting still or barely moving, I get the clanking noise. Glad to hear it is likely normal.

I can answer a few of your questions from a dealer standpoint,

The warrranty transfers automatically to the next owner, no notification is neccesary. The warranty goes with the car and its valid for 60,000 miles or 4 years from the in- service date. With 10k miles on the car you will probably see the time before you hit the miles. For your knowledge get the VIN number (on the lower right section of the windsheild or drivers door jam) and call your local Infiniti dealer's service dept., give them the VIN and they will tell tou the in-service date.

As far as suspension, all 6 M/T's previous to 05 included the sport suspension, rear limited slip, Brembo calipers w/ oversize rotors, 18" performance wheels standard.
