Thinking of buying G35 - Have 2 questions

I have my new car choices down between a BMW 3 series (E90) or a G35 coupe.
I've been watching the forums for both cars and I have 2 questions regarding the G35.
1. I was disappointed to see that it appears a fair number of owners are experiencing the same uneven tire wear the 350Z owners are getting (causing road noise). Can anyone comment on the prevalance of this condition?

2. I was also surpriesed to see that a lot of owners ae getting around 16mpg with mixed city/highway driving. Is this accurate?

I was leaning towards buying the G35 over the BMW until I saw posts about these 2 items.

Thanks

Answer 1: Alignment addresses (mostly) the uneven tire wear problem
Answer 2: Under normal driving conditions, many G35 Coupe owners gets over 380 miles per 18 US Gal (>21 Ml/gal). The problem is that the car is so much fun to push hard, due to its torque at low RPM, that most driver are not driving their G like the other cars they own.

1. If u buy an 05 u wont have this problem and if u get the sports package u get the nice forged 19" by rays eng ... we have some negative camber from factory but it doesnt effect anything much unless u drive until ur tires are bald. If you lower tho you WILL need some suspension work for perfect camber

2. thats cause we drive like we own the damn road.. lol theres also guys getting 25mpg. guys that drive 15-16mpg let their girl friends drive for a full tank and they got +20mpg.. lol

1. I've never really heard of this as an issue.. If anything, the reason for tire wear and noise is the brand of tire. The Mich Pilot tires get extremely noisy, and tend to wear pretty quick. Nothing to do with a problem really. It all depends, I've heard some people getting 25,000 to 30,000 miles out of theirs!

2. All depends on how you drive. If I just baby it, and/or drive mostly crusing at constant highway speeds, I can get 23+mpg. On average, some stop and go traffic, some highway, some hard acceleration here and there, I usually tend to get out no less than 19.5 mpg each time.

dude if you drive freeway bro, ive gotten like almost 28mpg with my 05 G. As for driving in town under normal conditions prob like 18 sounds about right and if you push it a little more here and there yah fuel consumption increases but you'll get about 340 miles out of one tank with the situation given above and less if u drive harder.

340 to 360 is what I get out of it. I consider that very good. And thats with alot of stop n go LA traffic. No need to shift agressively when you are only going to stop again within 20 feet.

Thanks for the feedback

I was going to wait for the '06 model (which I think should be out about now). So, it sounds like the tire wear issue, shouldn't be a problem.
Also glad to see that better mpg is possible.

you have to keep in mind that a HUGE portion of the people that show up on these sites are here to complain or get answers. So issues will seem MUCH more prevelant then they really are.

THE only issue that seems to arise alot is the Tranny one and it seems to be getting better and usually only plagues the MT people that like to really push thier car. They are always taken care of also =)

I will echo the gas mileage concern....its all up to you...ive gotten well over 400 miles per tank and ALOT less then that depending on how much i was showing off to my friends.

Good luck in your decision,
D

Ah i remember this choice, between the 3 and the G. My mum really wanted me to buy a 3 series as it had doors similar to a tank's, and bmwassist.
You'll never have as much fun driving a 3 as you will the G.

no unless you driving a M3..then its all diff! i think the E46 330Ci is also a great fun to drive..altho its not an M3, its still great...BMW (especially the 3 series) stands for DRIVING! E46 is just the best...until i get to try the new E90 330 Ci.

however, G is a great car for its price! altho i dont have one yet, it's on top of my list..hopefully in 3 to 6 months! (altho that M3 is pullin me hard too...if only its not so expensive to own)

1. I haven't seen any tire issue *knocks on wood*. I think it mostly plagued the earlier models. Yes, it is a bit noisey on the Bridgestone Potenzas (RE050). They are the same ones that are used on Higher End Mercedes AMG's.

2. Well, I went to Santa Barbara for a weekend and actually wanted to see what type of miles I can get. Sure enough, on highway cruising speeds (80'ish) I got about 375 miles and had 1/4 tank left. I refilled it and it came to about 16.5 gallons. So, that means about 23 miles / gallon. Not to shabby.
