2004 g35 - premium or regular?

Hey everybody, new to the forum. I am currently looking at a really sweet 2004 G35 and the dealer said that the 2004's only require regular unleaded whereas the 2005's require premium now. I just checked and found an internet site that says the 2004's require premium. Please tell me the dealer is right. Thx.

Damn. Well I'll have to fire up the calculator and see how much more it's gonna cost me for gas. This car is too beautiful to pass up. Thanks for the uber-quick responses.

Te difference between premium, and regular shouldn't be a difference for you. At the most its like $2-3 per tank fill.

it is recommended to run premium but since rising gas prices are a hassle for daily driving you can run on regular because the computer automatically adjusts the timing accordingly. you wont feel as much power gains on regular gas than premium.

I hope you're kidding on this comment. Have you tried putting regular gas in the G? From experience I know your engine will start knocking after a period of time. And for some reason the engine starts getting noisy. This happened on my previous car which also required premium gas and not regular.

As said before by many people, if you have to worry about putting premium in a car like this, you don't need to have the car.

i have a few customers running on regular for a while and doing the routine maintainences never having a knocking problem throughout their lease term. then again they never go past 3000rpm's and drive the engine hard. the knock sensor would kick in if you have a lower octane gasoline as well as the computer adjusting the timing and retarding it with the lower rating

I understand, my previous car if I'm not mistaken had 3 knock sensors and it didn't matter. It was specially bad when going up hill. Coming from Vegas the engine was knocking so bad it felt like it was out of tune. You step on the gas and it would just knock like crazy and almost no power. Had the damn thing checked and they couldn't find a thing with it. I changed the gas and by the 5th tank it was like a new car.

At .40 cent difference between Reg and Pre. on a 20 gal tank = $8.00!

I ran regular on my 03Z for the majority of the time and no knocking. I changed gas if taking it to a track, but for it's daily driving duties, it ran on regular...fine...with no knock. And I gotta think that I drove that harder than most drive their G's now. The only V6 on the market I can think of that absolutely NEEDS premium is the GTR motor cuz it has two turbos. I would say go with what the manual recommends, but from my experience, the VQ35DE's will be fine without it.

If you are worried about gas. Just get a HYBRID. This is not just for the OP. Any person driving a G and is complaining/worried about gas prices should of just bought a Prius and complain about the lack of power.
