Buying a car w/ a credit card
Also, something else to think about, some merchants charge up to a 3% "Convenience Charge" the merchants get charged a fee by the CC processor and sometimes pass it on to the customer.
I used a CC check for my 10K downpayment as I was selling my old car and the check had not cleared with my bank. I got hit with a wicked fee, like I'd used an ATM. I knew it was coming but still it hurt. Having that shiny G in the driveway took away all the pain
Anyway, I'd make sure they didnt invoke some cash fee. If they cant get their 3%+ from the dealer, they try to take it from you :/
My salespeople thought I was just charging my down payment and they didnt care. Thats like taking out a second mortgage for a downpayment on a house. Not for me.

Dealers will only usually allow you to pay a small downpayment with CC. No way any dealer is crazy enough to allow the whole car to be purchased that way, even if your credit limit were that high.

Or maybe not.
I can tell you that my mother in law HAS bought an Ac.ura on a card because her credit limit was high enough. The dealership made her adjust her purchase price to reflect the vig they were going to have to pay the card company. I have a buddy who has sold a 'Vette that way at a C.hevy dealership to a guy with the Amex Centurion card.
Had you thought maybe you can't do it at your dealership or perhaps in YOUR state/province?
Is it OK if the other kids keep talking now Dorf?

OK back to topic fellas. No need to name call or make this less than adult.
To the poster, I get the feeling that its the points you mainly want. If that's the case, then ensure you have enough credit to charge the purchase price. Secure your loan through a bank. Now the funds are deposited in your bank and next month you start to pay off the loan secured from your bank (or any other financial institution that wants to loan you the money). Inform your CC company that you will be making a large purchase. They will undoubtly want to see the funds in your bank. Go to the dealer, purchase away! Pay off the CC with the funds from the loan in your bank account.
This is in fact how I bought my G. Some very nice points on my Amex. But for arguments sake an Amex is not a CC but a charge card. I only needed to have Amex see the funds in my bank account as my normal monthly charges are less than purchase price. Very easy, only hassle I had to manage at the dealership was the purchase price.

Well, I finally got my answer today. At Southwest Infiniti in Houston, they allow a total of $5000 to be put on a CC, but it has to be split between two cards. It's not $37K, but it's still something for nothing
for all you guys saying you cant put huge amounts of money down on a credit card, it might not always be true. my dad just bought himself a new car, and with his amex he slapped down a 20k downpayment. they took it.
Limit usually around 3K on CC

I am fortunate enough to purchase my cars without any loans. I always try to put as much on my credit cards as possible to get my rebates or miles, but the dealer always puts some sort of limit on the credit card usage. They get charged a certain percentage to process the credit card payment. The most I've been able to put on a CC for a car purchase was 5K on my wife's MDX this past summer. Usually the dealers limit the CC charge to 3K or so.
My G35 was purchased from an individual owner through an ebay auction, so I was able to pay 10K through paypal and use my credit card.
