2005 vs 2006

Hey everyone, new to forum here. I am looking to buy a G35 coupe very soon now and contacted a dealer about a 2006 with sports suspension and he suggested I could also get a 2005 with premium and performance wheel package for a similar price.

My question to all of you, especially anyone that has the 2006 coupe, is should I wait for the 2006 or get the 2005 now?

I have read a few things on this forum about the 2006 that I'm kind of up in the air about, one of the major ones is the exhaust note being muffled?? Is this true? Why would they do that? Thats one of the things I love about this car. I am also not fond of the new rear spoiler and taillights. The only major bonus I can see of the 2006 is to get the new projectors and side skirts. As the blue tooth/intelli key is a bit out of my budget this time around...

Thanks for your help

Since you aren't getting navi, and you don't like the 06 spoiler and tails, get an 05... but IMO, you are already spending so much on a new car, you might as well spend just a bit more for the full package that also includes the cool features like bluetooth and intelli key...

Bah your already spending how much on that car? Save up some more and get the BT and inteli key; Those are not things you can add in easily later on.

Thanks for the advice but I am already really stretching my budget just to get the G with the sports package, what can I say, I really want the car... I am looking at a lease and that extra 3k for the Premium adds about $100 a month, which I just cant afford right now.

So can anyone confirm or disprove the rumor of the exhaust note sounding weaker? Thanks.

rememebr, only the 5AT comes with the intelli key i believe... i personally dont like the 06 taillights but wanted the bluetooth and headlights.

in the end i dont regret getting the 05... if i had the opp i would take hte 05 over the 06 just because of cost. i got a bone stock model, and thats all i wanted was the car. nothing else.

smart thing to do is be patient and wait for '06, but but but they really screwed up those dang tail lights that is hideous what they did. They cheesed it out and the out of place side skirts. Oh man boy they got pretty desperate on what to change this time. all they had to do was just add bluetooth and the projectors thats it. Id wait for the '07

Think of down the road when you go to sell it. Saving a little money by getting a new 05 versus a new 06 doesnt pay off when you trade in the car for another one. According to Consumer Reports, unless you plan on having the car for 6 or more years, dont go for the older model.

Ok I saw an 2006 yesterday and have to say that the taillight change is really not that noticable. You only can notice when you are really looking at it. If you are more than 5 feet away, you really cant see it.

The projectors look really sweet and the front air damn on the sport package looks really nice. Seems to to be lower than the standard air damn. The side sills look pretty good in person as well.

So I have a choice to make....

2005 with premium and performance 18" wheels 18 or a
2006 with sport package only 19" wheels. The difference is $10/month.

Is the 2005 premium package really worth it (sunroof, power tilt wheel, homelink, dual zone, and memory seats) or should I just go with the 2006 since the 2005 will soon be long gone and the depreciation higher. They both come with 280hp and thats what really matters Thoughts? Thanks everyone.

no offense, but if your budget is so tight, you might want to look at another car. keep in mind the increased maintainence costs (unless you do this by yourself) and the increased insurance costs. no point in cutting it too close, nothing is worth that anxiety imho!

dude... dont do him like that.

He's hung up on between a 05 and an 06... theres lots of things in play here, cost being one of them.

I was in the same boat a few days ago. I went with an 06, (an x not a coupe) and everyday im finding new things on the 06 thats improved over the 05.

If you do get an 05, make sure that deal is smoking. should be 1500 under invoice at least.
Else do yerself a favor and get the 06. My price delta between 05 and 06 was 25 bucks a month. Everytime i talk to my car knight rider style and make fone calls, im happy i got the 06. When i was shopping, bluetooth was at the bottom of the list, hell wasnt on my list. Only reason i went with 06 was color/options on the 05 wasnt available.

Question on whether premium is worth it... for 3 grand its kinda pricey, but almost everything on there i love. Smart key, is awesome, sunroof is the uber, memory seats tied to smart key... great great, dual zone, i actually used this weekend. I've had the car less than 3 days and ive used all the features and appreciated them. (Dunno if coupe has reclining rear seats, but thats really cool too)

Sorry if i didnt make yer decision any easier.

I'm probably the worst person to ask, but the premium package rocks! I always think why spend the extra 1-3k on something already expensive, but man it makes this luxury/sport vehicle what it's supposed to be..IMHO.. good luck! and regardless hold out for a deal!
