Question Pro Cons 6MT

Can anyone give me the pros and cons and getting a 05-06 6MT vs. getting a 03-04 6MT? I know the 05-06 has 18 more hp but im getting ready to buy one so I just trying to do a little research.

I have an '05 and I like the 19" wheels and the brakes that throw off almost no brake dust. I also prefer the interior of the '05 to that of the pre '05 Gs. So from an aesthetic point of view, the '05 is a clear choice IMO.

The pre '05s have brembo brakes which is a definate plus. Also, for the street I prefer the higher torque in the pre '05s to the higher HP in the '05. There's a noticebable differance in low end pull on the G loaners that I get which are all pre '05 with auto trannies. Now I'm attributing that differance in pull to the torque but it could be also because of the gearing on the auto trannies.

Based on everything that I have read the engines on the Gs are bulletproff, so you can't go wrong with either year. The best advice that I could give you is to test drive both cars and take lots of notes on your observations. If you like both cars equally, go with the one where you get the best deal. IMO you can't go wrong with either.

^^ if ur not mistaking i think only the 04 came with the brembos. they did away with them on the 05 that is the main reason y i bought a used 04 with very low miles as suppose to buying a brand new 05.. yes 05 has 18more horses but with the thermal spacer that is all made up...

but either way u go man its a beautiful car and u wont b dissapointed..

I went with a new 06 due to pricing reasons. The lower mileage 04s and 05s were, at least in Atlanta, priced too close to the new car pricing of the 06s. I am usually one who lets someone else take that "new car hit" but with the G maintaining such a high resale value, buying new just seemed like a logical decision to me.

As far as the car goes, I like my stock 19s and the fact that some issues have been fixed to a degree. However, had I found the right 04 car, I would have gone that route. Like it was said before, you really can't go wrong.

When shopping. Get the one with the options that you want/need at the best price you can negotiate regardless of year. The 6MT is super fun to drive. The 5AT in manumatic mode is also super fun to drive and is no slouch. It pulls extremely well in all years. I've driven everything from an 03 to an 06 and IMO you can't go wrong with any of them. I ended up with an 03 5AT coupe (bought 10/05) because it was the only one within 150 miles that had Nav and I got a great deal on it.

Good question...

for me, I went with a 03 for the Brembos...the extra 18hp the 05s came with could be made up with a little bit of money in mods but Brembo brakes are always expensive. Just IMO.

I'd get the 06 for the for the new features like bluetooth and the new rev-up motor... Brembos can be added, the other features is a b!tch to retrofit onto the car... 18hp can be made on an 04, but the rev-up makes 15hp, 30 lbs of torque with a single mod that costs almost as much as an exhaust...

Thermal spacer

I like the coupe most in Ivory Pearl with graphite leather, so once I found it with 6MT and Nav I jumped on it. Brembo's are hot and I'm happy I got them, but if 05s had the color and leather combination, I'd probably get the '05.
I wasn't gonna mod, but if it sounds so easy to make up those 18 horses, can you please give me all the info on the spacer. What is it, how much is it, where does it go, can I install it myself, and where do I buy it. Thanks

I was upset when they took away the Brembo on the 05+, the only thing I like is the interior and when I found out that performance is almost the same as the 03-04, I was more upset. Then Mrev came and I am happy, and it seems that the 05+ do respond better on Mods... My brother is debating on getting an 04 but when he saw the maintenance included with those Brembo, he just went to get the IS250.
