Hummm actually... I found a pic... looks like its just a key that uses either IR or RF instead of the old triditional metal "key" but you still insert it into the ignition and twist?

Not quite- the intelligent key doesn't need to be inserted, just on you. So long as the fob is around, you just twist the ignition switch and go- though the ignition switch has a slot on it where a traditional key (like the one that's actually stuck inside the I.K. fob) can be inserted to start the car if the fob itself is missing.

Hey, MINI Bud...

The Intelligent key feature lets you keep the key in your pocket (or, in my case, purse). Once you get close enough to the car, it recognizes you. You just press a button to get into the car, and there is a little thing where a key would normally be (kind of looks and feels like a plastic key) that you twist to start the car. It's especially nice for "us girls" so we can keep the key in our purse and not have to dig for it...

Also, if the "intelligent" key loses power (battery runs out), there is a little key inside that you can get out and use so you can still get in the car and start it, etc. I just saw the demo once, but that's what I recall.

Getting my new "Fini" tomorrow! Wheee! Will post pics, etc.

First impressions...

Picked up my new "Fini" (sorry for the goofy name, but I like it 'cause it rhymes with MINI) yesterday. Unfortunately, it was in a heavy rain, so I drove straight home and parked in the garage.

Today is beautiful, though, and got it out on the road (after giving the car a quick bath, of course). I love the ride! It is not all mushy like a Lexus can be (or other luxury cars can be). In fact, the ride is quite firm, which is nice. The steering is accurate, and again -- not mushy. No play. The acceleration is quick, although not quite as responsive as I imagine the manual would be. But it's great for my purposes. (And I have tried and liked the manual shift.)

The nav system is fun!

The Bluetooth phone system works pretty well. I'm still figuring it out. The voice recognition is a bit touchy. (Think it doesn't like my Texas accent?)

Got the Homelink to recognize one of my "clickers" (for the gate of our community) but not my garage clicker yet. Hubby got it to work on his Audi, so we just need to work on it some more.

The stability control / active steer and other features seem to work well. I took a corner quite fast, and the car almost started to spin out but immediately corrected itself. Very nice.

Comfort level is very high -- best of any car I've owned. (But then, BMW's and MINI's aren't known for high comfort levels, IMHO.)

Overall, gorgeous car, plenty of power and I feel quite pampered.

Ahhh....

Haven't taken photos yet; waiting for spoiler to be installed (was supposed to come with it, but dealer messed up -- will be installed Thursday).

My Wife has a Mini. After driving her car, I often will jump right into my G35 just to feel what it's like to drive a real car. Go for the G!

Oops! Just realized you took the plunge. Good choice, and enjoy the Fini!

Yep, I got the G, with all the bells & whistles. I am really enjoying it. The ride is smooth but not squishy, and the acceleration is peppy. Plus, I am SOOO spoiled with the extras like the Bluetooth phone system, the Intelligent key, the nav system, etc. ahhhh.....
