That looks to be about dealer price... a 6MT w/ nav msrp's for a little over 40K now doesn't it? I think invoice price for 6mt w/ nav is about 36K-37K.

Keaka - what was the dealer invoice? It would be interesting to compare what dealer costs are from dealer to dealer. And trust me, the dealer will never loose money, even if you think they are making only 200, they are making more.

There are costs listed in the dealer invoice you shouldn't be paying anyways, since they get it back from the Nissan. And different markets offer differing pricing. When i first got my G, i found no dealers, including internet fleet sales in my area willing to go anywhere south of msrp.

I honestly dont remember what the dealer invoice price was. I just demanded to see it. I worked in auto sales in the past, so I know how the game works. The dealer isn't willing to lose money, yes. However, they ARE willing to lose money "in the front" (price of the car) if there is a way to make money "in the back". They might make this money back by putting BS fees into the contract, charging ridiculous prices for dealer installed options, extended warranties, paint protection, undercar coating or other BS stuff like super high interest rates on the loan. It all depends. Im not about to try and make a business LOSE money to give me a car. It is a business. No one runs a business to lose money. Also, the dealership also makes money from infiniti from each unit sold every month. So invoice is indeed what they pay for the car, but they make other money aside from how much over invoice you pay.

To me, trying to make a business lose money or make next to no money to get you something is like not tipping your waitress. You can do it, it can be done, but why would you do something like that to them?

I AM however all for getting a fantastic deal. Also, a salesperson for a dealership will *NEVER* make less than $100 commission on a sale, regardless of the selling price. This is called a "mini" (short for minimum), for those who dont know about car sales.

Typically, a dealership will pay between 20%-25% commission on the profit of the sale. So basically, once you're under the $500 in profit (over invoice price for simplicity sake), the salesperson is going to make $100 commission regardless of how much lower the price gets. At this point, you're actually haggling with the sales manager for a lower deal. The only way for the salesperson to get his commission back up is getting them "in the back".

Hope this novel helps some of you better understand "the process".

you talk too much...i currently have a maryland wholesalers license, and have many friends in industry, among them the finance manager at browns honda, and the general manager at carmax nissan. and for you, the expression "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" applies. check out carpricesecrets.com

We are way OT now. However, all I'm going to say is that you might have "friends in the industry" , but since I have first hand experience, and you dont (any moron can get a wholesale license with no trouble), Im going to take my word , not yours.

Edit: I just looked at your lame carpricesecrets.com....Haha! As I said above, dealerships make other money on a sale besides money over invoice. Fact is, you're ignorant to think "invoice price has nothing to do with how much a dealership pays for a car", you would be correct in saying "dollars over invoice price is not the only way for a dealerships to make money on a sale" I would have agreed.

Also, the things I said above are still on topic. He may have received those price quotes above, which at a glance seem to be pretty good. But if he's not careful, he could get scammed in the back. Best thing to do if he's worried about that would be to bring a check from his own bank, or someone seperate from the financing offered at the dealership. No BS that way.

what are you six? go cry to your mommy, jump up and down and hold your breath. i'm assuming you were a peon salesman at a dealership, and that's where you get your info. you need a class on critical thinking buddy. i stated that invoice has nothing to do with what a dealer pays for it's cars...which it doesn't. of course dealers can make money on the backside--no one argued that. he asked about the price. THE PRICE!!! you are not as important as you think you are, and no one is going to give you the praise that you crave so much. so calm down and get your panties unbuched.

oh...and the quote from that site is "not only is the dealers invoice, not their true cost, it is downright irrelevent for determining their secret price" you explain to me what that means, because you are so wise and experienced.

Should I even bother trying to get a better deal or is this pretty much as low as I can expect.

Who's acting like the child here? I'm offering information. If you look back in the thread, I've never attacked or insulted anyone. You on the other hand come off as rude and arrogant from the start.

You say that he wanted "the price". Guess what? Getting ripped off in the back from some made up BS hidden fees adds to THE PRICE! I can't tell you how many people think they are getting a stellar deal, but in reality, the dealer makes a ton on them.

If anyone is being a child here, it would be you, I never even expressed any anger or frustration anywhere in this thread. You're getting your feathers ruffled and huffing and puffing because someone DARES challenge your all-knowing ePeen over the internet? Good luck with your life.
