Baten down the hatches. Maybe the weatherman misunderstood. Didn't you want less rain?
Sounds tough out there. Good luck.

Thanks Sam.
Yeah, things have been a bit dry. Grass etc will appreciate it.

Forecast starting tomorrow is straight sun and warm for next 10 couple of weeks.

Yikes, that is some pretty strong winds Deane. AFAIK, I think we are supposed to miss Alberto completely. There is supposed to be some showers today, and then sun all weekend! Woohoo!

Stay safe down there Deane!

Saturday is calling for sunny and 28 and Sunday is supposed to be sunny and 29! With the last couple of weekends being a washout, I am looking forward to some nice hot weather.

I went golfing last night for the first time in two weeks, and the course is still soaked. On the 14th hole, there was a small lake still in the fairway with several ducks swimming!

I'm not a golfer but I wouldn't be surprised to see if it was the same here with so much moisture lately. Just checked ours and we're 24 & 25 for highs.

Have a good weekend. I find out today if the g is ready for tomorrow after the new bumper & paint so may be out for a drive.

This would be a great weekend to have your car ready for a drive! I am anxious to see pics once you get it back.

Normal stuff to get periodically when you live here. It's the price you have to pay for all this beauty of the Atlantic Coastline.

Here I had plotted this brilliant and evil scheme: "Hmmm, fantastic. My riding buddies- husband and wife- are on a 26 day vacation, half of which is on a cruise ship. As far as training is concerned, they're in big trouble. Good eats, drinks, leisure, less chance to exercise... I can finally gain some ground on them! Muhhaaaahhaamuhhaaahhhaa!... [cut me some slack will ya- they're 10 years younger than me. She competed in the Canada Games years ago, for crying out loud. Us old guys hafta be devious to keep up]
If I can log close to a grand for kms this month, they'll be in so much crap..."

Uh, yeaaah, riiigggghhtt.

So for the first 12 days of the month, I sat looking out the window, thinking this stuff has gotta let up. What could possibly be next?

What next? Greetings, Alberto.

So, following a whopping 3 rides (mon, tues, wed of this week), I'm sitting on 150 in the first half the month. Get out the chamois creme folks, there are a few long days in the saddle upcoming.

Oh yeah, but I put the MREV+ of the bicycle world in the other day- ceramic hybrid bottom bracket bearings. Pricey for sure, but worth every penny. In technical terms- pedals turn easier; make bike go easy.

Word on the street is that this bright yellow thing is going to appear in the sky tomorrow, so I'll get a second chance to confirm the effectiveness of the new mod.

Cheers,
D

Derek, there won't be any excuse for anything but sore legs and a sore butt for you in the next week. BTW, I know all about the tricks us old timers need to use against the younger speedier bucks and does.

I'm hoping my bod holds out and lets me ramp up a few more kms on the roads myself. Should be a wimpy but better than lately 75km this week. I caved today and ran inside on the mill. That wind was pretty serious out there.

That bright yellow thing is going to happen tomorrow and my aggregrate driveway is going to get it's annual birthday present - a pressure wash bath followed by a nice brownish epoxy seal.

Ceramic hybrid **&*^((^^P*(*^ You're worse with the bike than the car!!

Have a good one.

Hey Deane,

Will you be working thru/around injury-are you still on the mend? Or has time healed said wounds? I was close to pulling the mag trainer out the other day, but we got sun just in time.

I'm on standby today, so we may hafta go help save a few sailboat folks that overturned today as a result of the storm. I'm expecting the call at any time now. If we get launched, the likelihood of being able to get out tomorrow on the bike will drop to close to nil. Otherwise, I'm hoping for 80K tomorrow and the same or more on Saturday, but Sunday my crew is flying so again, unlikely that I'll get out.

I keep wondering when I'm going to be able to stain the deck (has anyone seen any half decent sales on for Olympic stains?) Really, I need 4 sunny days- one to wash and the next to be sure it's dry, one to stain, and one to let it properly dry. I'm just not certain we'll see that in June here this year.

Yeah, the ceramics are kinda "gucci." Do I need them? Heck no, I need to lose 4 lbs, but that would mean less of something- less beer, less ice cream, less scotch, less...to he*k with that, let's not go overboard here.

The difference is not only noticeable, it's impressive. The whole drivetrain felt smoother than brand new. I was doubtful beforehand, now I'm converted. Next stop, ceramics for my Ksyrium wheels.

Cheers,
D

p.s. Epsom salt baths will be "de riguer" to ease the pain for the remainder of the month

Good to hear you're happy with the bike mods. I'm sure the klicks will be piling on this coming week.

On my running I'm doing it carefully while trying to mend. I'm improving but can't do much volume and no speed work now at all.

Did you end doing that rescue? Why were those people out with this thing being forecasted so far in advance.

Good luck with the deck. I can't help with the stain sale source.

I prefer the Sobeys epsom salts myself.

Alas, I have awoke. Got the call around midnight, launched about an hour later. 23 hour crew day, 11 hour flight, along with 6 other aircraft that came and went throughout our airborne time. Two sailboats in trouble. Good news bad news I'm afraid. Guys before us helped get folks off one of the boats, and we re-located that abandoned vessel after they had been rescued, but we came up empty-handed in trying to locate the other. It's hard to explain just how big the ocean can be, and how small a boat can be, but for perspective, I once did GPS to GPS "on-tops" trying to find a 25 foot dismasted sailboat while in comms with the skipper, but due to the waves, whitecaps, and swell that day, even though he saw us every time, it took us five tries before we saw him. We were successful that day, but we're not always so fortunate.
Last night we had much better weather, as the storm had passed, but still we had no luck.

It's hard to understand why folks journey out into this stuff, but I guess I would say never underestimate the force of the sea and mother nature, as she can be very unforgiving.

Cheers,
D
