More on Wheels/tires G35 w Brembos

This group was helpful to me as I started my search for winter wheels/tires for my G35 with Brembos; some readers may want to find out how this problem was finally solved for $2K, all in. One word of advice is act _soon_ if you need winter wheels and tires; there will be more G35 drivers wanting rims than there are rims availabe that will fit around the Brembos!

First, locate a rim that will clear the Brembos. I have settled on CSA Gladiators (17x8), purchased from Jerry Liu, Yorkville Infiniti (Toronto) for about $1000 taxes in. I dealt with Jerry because: 1. he was helpful and informed, 2. his price was competitive, 3. he is an Infiniti service & parts manager with a vested interest in G35 customers.
The CSA Gladiator rim is produced by Mullins Wheels (Australia), and they have several similar products with different centre 'badges'. The challenge is offset to clear the calipers; I tried about 20 styles of rim before finding only a few that would fit; some were too expensive for me (Ronal 38s or Eagle 168s); but you must be _certain_ that a rim fits before you buy and "seeing is believing". Many vendors will swear they have a solution but they do not. For an explanation of rim offset to clear calipers, see http://www.canadiandriver.com/discus...tml?1065556153 .

Next, narrow your choice of tires. Mine reduced to these four, shown below with the best price I could find, pre-tax but installed and balanced:
* Bridgestone Blizzak LM22 (H rated) $256
* Toyo Garit (H rated) $244
* Michelin Pilot Alpin (V rated) $236
* Pirelli Winter 210 (H rated) $250
Final choice among these is largely a matter of taste, IMHO. I have gone with the Michelin Pilots because: 1. the dealer (Costco) is local and known to me, 2. they offered lifetime balance, rotation and seasonal wheel change, 3. they have no-haggle pricing so less BS. Take a look a http://www.canadiandriver.com/discus...tml?1061609958 ... it gives some other owners' choices for G35 w Brembos.

Finally, Infiniti Canada should have thought in advance about the winter driver needs of their customers. One G35 owner put it this way: "*&$#@!! Infiniti!!! They assured me they would have steel rims available! That's why I bought the car. Great car, but will never deal with infiniti again." DBERNS, Monday, August 11, 2003 - 04:57 pm, CanadianDriver.com, Autotalk. In addition, we have the little problem of the tire pressure monitor in the original valve stem (at $480 per), without which we have a warning light in our faces all winter. This is more very poor planning, Infiniti Canada!

Costco has Michelin Pilot Alpins (V-rated 225/50/17) for $248 before taxes (less $12.50 per tire up to November for their tire sale). Their price includes installation and balance, plus the lifetime service outlined in my last post. If you want 235/50/17, they are $10 more per tire. If you want tires for 18" rims, expect to pay more again.

Hey guys...Dally check out Costco...I hear Costco has a Bridgestone sale on right now...I think its $40 off each set of 4. Pretty good pricing if you ask me. I too am a Costco member and am impressed with their service.

My dealer tried to fark me on the issue-Infiniti Canada could care less-they're all better suited to selling Yugos. Try Talon Tire in Montreal. I've attached a pic and a quote from last winter. Tires are good-wheels get compliments.

[4] 17x7 Enkei RS6 (Silver) @ $289 = 1156

Feight 55

Alberta tire tax 4 = 16

Sub total $2171

Triple 7, so you get the rims from Jerry and get the tires from Costco? (You mean those Costco that also sells huge package of chips and meat right?) Do you need those Costco Card to purchase tires from them then? Life time wheel blance, rotation, and seasonal wheel change sounds attractive. Though their price sounds slightly higher than other tires store. But with all the benefit such as wheel change and lifetime balance and roatation, it might worth the extra bucks.

Anyways, for any of you that is interested in buying Bridgestone, i just got quote from one of their retailer, they are doing a 50% off sales after Oct24 (wel, even though it says it's 50% off, don't expect to save more than 10%). They quote me 1275 for Blizzak LM22 18 inches, (260 front, and 290 rear before tax i believe) The 1275 include tax and installation. Sounds like a decent price comparing to Costco for a 18", i don't know if they offer seasonal wheel change and other service along with the purchase though, but you guys might wanna check it out. They located at McCowan and Shephard, around Wheel-Direct. I don't know if the sales is for any Bridgestone retailer or just that particular store though.

neohh, do you have the contact information for that Bridgestone retailer you are talking about? or atleast their name?

I would be interested in finding out how much they will sell 17" Blizzaks for.
thanks
