Buying an 04 G35
Buying an 04 G35
Hello,
I just registered at this forum today (which is definitely one of the better G35 forums -- plus I live in Toronto) and this is my first post.
Hopefully in about three weeks I can join all of you as a G35 coupe owner. I was at Yorkville Infiniti in Toronto for most of the afternoon today dealing with Frank (sales) and Paul (sales manager). I am looking to trade in my 99 Mercedes SLK with AMG Sport Package (and manual transmission) -- for a 2004 6MT with Nav. The problem was that we could not figure out a trade-in value for the Mercedes -- they phoned a bunch of people and some won't call back until tomorrow.
Frank is going to phone me tomorrow once their used-vehicle contacts phone him back with firm quotes. (I really hope the number is reasonable because if it isn't then I will walk away from this and look at other options or just keep my car for another year).
I am paying full price for the 04 G ($51,100.00 with Nav – apparently the price is $750 higher than the 03 price) but I am asking them to put on a clear bra (3M) on the hood and across the front fenders... and to also tint the windows (30 for the windshield and 20 for the sides and back), and I also need to buy a second set of winter rims and tires, which I am asking for 17 inch rims with Pirelli 210's (to be mounted pre-delivery, since next week will be November). They agreed to work with me on the price with all of these things included.
Apparently the 2004 has a new CD changer and meets the LEV2 emissions standard, but is otherwise the same as the 03.
I'm really looking forward to getting this beautiful machine in my driveway and out on the road!
Did all of you have smooth new car delivery experiences? Are there any things I should look out for when I sign or when I pick-up? I told Frank (the sales guy) that I want the sales agreement to state that the odometer will have under 25 km on it and he agreed to it.
Since I am a G35 newbie, any new-car advice from the more experienced among you would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Kyle (metasystem)
Re: Buying an 04 G35
Metasystem,
Welcome aboard to G35Driver.
Why don't you come out to our next Toronto meet this Sunday(Toronto meet #6)? Check out the post refering to the time and place . There will be lots of coupe owners there so you can ask lots of questions.
As for myself, I ordered my car and picked it up within the said time period( 6-7weeks), no problems.
Good luck with the purchase and hope to see you out at the next meet.

35bills,
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Sure... I would love to attend the next meet on Sunday Nov. 2nd @ 2:00 pm, Fairview Mall.
I will still be driving the SLK but if that's okay, then I will be there (99% sure).
Thanks again,
Metasystem

Re: Buying an 04 G35
Kyle, Welcome to the G35 family of owners. It took 3 months for me to take delivery of my G35 Coupe in May of this year. The buying experience was totally trouble free but then you might have to allow a margin of error from my excitement in finally taking delivery of a vehicle that's been on my mind for three months from the date of ordering.
You'll find that that ownership experience is nothing short of exceptional. The G35 Coupe is one of the most attractive vehicles on the road today. A fact that has been confirmed by comments of approval by many car owners including those that own Audi's, BMW's, etc.
Glad to hear that you'll make it to the last G35 Meet for the season. I'm sure the group will be more than happy to share their ownership experiences.
By the way, I also get my G35 religiously maintained and looked after by Jerry at Yorkville Infiniti Service. Look him up when you need advice or service.

Re: Buying an 04 G35
Thanks Ben!
I have been almost obsessed with this car for quite a while now. First I was going to get an M3 but it would have been over $90 k out the door, plus I checked the insurance rates between the two cars and the M3 was significantly more.
The more I thought about it and checked out what's out there, the more I became sure that this was the absolute right choice -- Now I am 100% set on the G35 hands down.
Someone parks a silverstone coupe at the back of the Wellington Club (right outside my window) and another guy parks a silverstone 6MT outside the Glidden Paint Building on Portland St. and I pass by there every day. So I have been tortured by seeing these two awesome machines every day... now I gotta have my own!
You are right -- this is one of the nicest looking cars on the road today. I think it has a perfect stance.
Also, from certain angles (rear 3 quarter for example) it is a perfect balance between beautiful -- and downright mean-looking!
That's what I'm looking for basically - a blend between high performance and cutting-edge style that's reliable and around $50k. There's not really anything else out there now that tops this car for those attributes.
Plus this car has the heritage of the mighty Skyline and the zeds. It's a no-brainer!
BTW, speaking of Jerry... Frank (the sales guy that I am dealing with) was speaking to Jerry (Lui?) upstairs in the service dept. while I was there... I asked Frank a technical question and he phoned Jerry to find out. He spoke very highly of him. There was also another guy there who was tinting the windows on a customer's new G in the showroom, I must have been there for a few hours and this guy was still working on it when I left -- he was super meticulous and was doing a really perfect, clean job.
Hopefully he'll be doing mine soon!

Re: Buying an 04 G35
Welcome to the club Kyle, before you place order on your G, you should phone different dealership to ask about the price. Well, that is the biggest mistake i made which i didn't goto any other dealership but Agincourt, and i end up buying it on MSRP plus free life time oil change. See which dealership can offer you a better price before you place your order. (Don't goto Agincourt or Willowdale though, they got really bad reputation).
Yeah i agree this is the best car you can get at its price range, my friend just got a STI but i think my G coupe looks much better than his "soup-up" version of WRX. (Not to mention the interior feels like a Mazda) The only thing that he got better than the G is the power, but man, if i really want the power i might as well as get myself a Supra and make it 600hp. And the most importantly, i get much more attention than the STI or any other same price car. Gotta love it when you park somewhere and see 10 or more people circling around your car. (Maybe not that many anymore since it's not as rare as before.) Plus, recent report just shown that the Coupe will have the best resale value 5 years after! That's gonna help us a bit when switching from a 350GT to a GT-R! (heard it's coming on 2007 or so)
I think Jerry from Yorkville is in this forum and offer us some great deal once a while. Good luck with your G, but i guess you still have to wait for awhile since i heard that most of the dealership don't have them in stock. (man, i wait for almost 3 month for this car)
I guess the only bad thing is, another G 35 Coupe on the street! (Just make sure you don't convince your friends to buy one too, lol) I hope i could drop by at the meet on sunday, but.... most likely not. wel, have fun, all.

Re: Buying an 04 G35
Kyle, it was nice meeting you at the meet today.
I would suggest you consider selling your Mercedes privately. I know it can be a hassle taking calls and showing the car. But I have sold my last three cars privately, two to the first person to see it, and one to the second.
If you price it well, you will still get considerably more than a trade-in, and it will still sell fast.
Don't over ask -- many asking prices on AutoTrader are too high, and won't necessarily get many calls.
AutoTrader is good, but the downside is they automatically put you in the magazine version as well (so you could get calls for many weeks after the car is sold). Try different forums, like this one. Maybe a Mercedes forum. Globemegawheels is free (and you can post pictures). Autonet is free (no pictures).
Good Luck,
James

Re: Buying an 04 G35
Hi James,
It was great meeting you and everyone else at the meet today!
Thanks for the good tips (to you and all the others who have been so helpful).
I think you are right, I am probably better off selling the Mercedes privately -- although I was hoping to trade it in and save myself the headache of getting a safety certificate, showing the car, etc., and also save some tax on the G35 by using a trade in.
However the problem with a trade in (according to the guys at Yorkville Infiniti) is that apparently many US/ overseas wholesalers are not buying used Canadian vehicles right now because our dollar is so strong. Plus it is the wrong season to move a convertible, and it is not a high volume seller like say, a Civic.
So it looks like I will try and sell it privately. But first I will try talking to a few other dealerships like neohh and others have suggested to me.
I am determined to have my new G by the time I see you at the next meet in the spring!
Thanks again and all the best,
Kyle

Re: Buying an 04 G35
Ian, you are the one who was following me from the highway right? (how'd you know they are at the third floors at sears parking lot? i thought it suppose to be in front of the mall) Anyways, nice meeting you all.
Re: Buying an 04 G35
We were in the front of the mall for about 20-30 minutes, but since we were all getting soaked in the rain, we decided to move up into the covered above-ground parking lot. Still, quite a few cars did manage to find us after a bit of driving around.
Re: Buying an 04 G35
OK you guys. This is my first post on this forum. Ordered my G35C 6MT (and yes it's SS) about 2 months ago from Yorkville Infiniti. Got a good deal from what I've read here, maybe because I don't want it until mid April 2004. Would like to know when your next meeting will be to meet the group and get some info on aero kit(s), window tinting etc. Like others, I'll be driving a non Inifiniti/Nissan product so will keep my distance. Am curently a member of the Trillium Miata Club in TO but am classified as being in the 'Northern Deviant Subculture' chapter as I am located in Bracebridge and come with baggage. Am keeping the miata but am finished modifying it ( I think).....it's such a riot to drive! Look forward to introductions and participating in group tours next year. BTW, where is the best place for a fridge in the G35?
Re: Buying an 04 G35
Hey Kyle,
It's me John ... the guy that came w/ Dude_933 (Porsche Owner).
It was good meeting you on Sunday since I'm also looking for a G35 Coupe ... pretty much to the same specs as yours.
I was wondering if perhaps if we buy one together if they could cut us a better deal or throw in some things like lifetime free oil changes or even mats ... email me at raptorland@hotmail.com if you're interested in exploring this route.
Thanks,
John
Hopeful G35 6MT w/Nav Owner in the Spring
