Bent RIM?
Bent RIM?
Hi Guys,
My 2003 G35 Coupe had one of those crappy weeks. I was driving up a ramp merging onto the gardiner in down town Toronto, I seen this huge piece of concrete 24" long and 4" wide fall off the bridge and land directly in front of my coupe! I swerved to avoid the piece of concrete, but alas it was too late. I ran over the concrete, my passenger side front wheel took the brunt of the blow, it stripped the paint off the underside of my bumper. I pulled over and couldn't see any obvious damage to the tire or rim.
The damage however was obvious when driving at high speed. The STEERING WHEEL starts to shake, the faster I go the more violent the shaking. I brought my car to INFINITI YORKVILLE and they were of the opinion that the RIM was bent and thus causing the shuttering. Is this possible? I am not a RIM expert but is this plausible? Should I get a second opinion from an independent tire/rim place? Its $1200 for a new tire/rim so I dont want to replace the rim and then still have the problem.
Thanks for your help
Dave

Dave check this thread on rim repair, it gives a few locations around the GTA.

Watch the marketplaces here too for someone selling off rims.
If you're lucky you'll find a single rim. If not a whole sets come up for less than $1200....
They do come up occasionally, so watch closely.
Sorry for your bad luck..

Find out who owns the bridge and contact their loss management program for reimbursements it is common and usually looked after quickly. Get the exact info and call them to put them on notice.
Not sure where you are located but I had a similar situation with my Talon a little ways back. Took a ramp on wet roads at a little bit of an aggressive speed coupled with the fact it had rumble strips and my front diver side rim smashed into the curb. Anyways, I used Wheel Wizards in Hamilton just off Barton, fixed it like new for under $200. Just called them yesterday since I was considering getting my winter rims refinished, said $100 - $130 a rim so I opted out. It is just winter afterall.
