Got my winter wheels
Got my winter wheels
I got my winter wheels put on today just in time for some foul freezing rain. I'll try to get some better pictures when the weather turns around.
Wheels are FRD 30 - 18" X 8"
Tires are 225/45/18 all around

Re: Got my winter wheels
Hi thane,
Those FRD's (and Gladiators) are nice wheels. Especially in 18".
On past cars, I've always felt better winter traction with a smaller skinnier tire (I have 225/45 Pirelli Winters on 17 x 7.5 AMG wheels all 4) -- but I must admit your 18 x 8 definitely make the car look good all year round and there's probably not much difference in 90% of GTA driving conditions unless it's the first drive after a blizzard.
In my opinion, in terms of car design on the G35 there is a big space between the door and rear wheelwell (compared to say, the 350Z) and the car is overall visually heaviest in the rear quarter panel, and so it looks "right" with an 18, 19 or even 20's -- especially on the rears.
Maybe (when I get the G35) I will eventually put winter tires like yours on my 18" stock rims-- and then buy some 19 or 20'' summer killers!
Your new wheels look great!
Kyle

Re: Got my winter wheels
no sub, the brakes are stock.
I am wondering why you spent the extra money for the 18s when you could have used you stocks with that rubber and saved some doe?
I like em.. but are they "worth" it ?
sorry to rag.

Re: Got my winter wheels
Rag away I don't mind.
Last year I mounted the snow tires on my stock rims. One of the tire shops put a small scratch on my wheel and it left me wishing I had bought cheaper winter wheels. Not to mention it costs $160 per year for mounting/balancing plus $100 for tire storage if you don't want to lug the tires back and forth. So after 4 years the rims will have paid themselves off and the beautiful stock rims should still look as good as new. In addition, now that I can swap the rims myself I no longer have to sit in a shop waiting for a couple of hours twice a year to have the tires mounted/dismounted. So to me they are "worth" it; for others maybe not.
BTW, I added a few new pics to the album listed in the original post.
