Sounds like your emergency was siezed Manbir. Might be an idea to check it out if it occurs again.

Welcome back to Ontario . Hope you had a good time on your trip.

If the ebrake was on then as Wayne said that was likely the culprit. Since the noise was in the rear its even a better bet that was the problem. It's a good idea never to put the ebrake on if the car is not going to be moved for many days or weeks. It's almost guaranteed to seize.

Another potential reason is if your car was wet when it was put away the brake pad could have slightly seized on the disc. It would have required a good amount of force to break free so the car could roll away forward or background. If possible try and put away when dry.

My car with the Brembos is especially bad for this happening. I'll even ride the brakes for a few extra seconds before parking to reduce the problem.

Thats a good point Deane concerning the wet brakes. That could have caused the calipers to sieze up. My truck does that sometimes .

^it's a very common situation around here. It might be more prevalent with our Coastal humidity.

If I wash any of the vehicles I always have to drive them a bit to avoid it.

i would suggest not storing your car for any period of time with the parking brake on. Just leave it in gear and use some sort of chock such as a wood block, in front and behind one of the tires. Assuming you're parked on fairly flat ground, you won't have any problem with your car rolling away.

Happens to me when it rains overnight and the car is outside. I'm not worried.

M.,
I'd say all the brakes stuck to the rotors.....which will happen especially if you put the car away wet.
Next time you wash it to put away, drive it for a little way to warm the brakes up to allow them to dry properly.

^+1. Also might want to think about using the foot brake every time you park it. Unnecessary IMHO.

Absolutely correct, Deane.....applying it for just sitting in the garage only makes it worse..

For sure, in the 2 years I had the 05 I only used it once and that was on one of those radically sloped side streets in Halifax .

You seem to remember those streets well Wayne. They are pretty crazy downtown. I used to run and work downtown and got in some good workouts. Coming up into my subdivision its similiar.

I'll never forget many years ago my parents owned a '76 Maverick 3 spd std. My sister had just learned to drive and was so proud she could drive downtown with it, and bragged she didn't need to use the brake on an uphill. The clutch was replaced after about 2 months of her working downtown. LOL
