Painting over your Coupe

Hi All,

This is one area you DON'T want to cheapen on. Painting over a car must be done professioanlly and should be done properly.

Anyone ever painted theirs over or acutally any car for that matter?

I heard about 5K is for show cars etc....
What about 2-3k to paint it over?

Going from Silverstone to IP. Is more work needed cause it is going from a dark color to a very light color...

Anyone know of a reputable and professional shop that does this and have confirmed they are good at what they do in the GTA?

Thoughts please.
All suggestions welcomes.

Good to hear you found out on your own. I'm not a professional in that field but knew that however didn't want to burst your bubble.

G/L finding what you want. If it were me I'd set a deadline and then go after your second choice instead of waiting forever for the prefect ivory one. It's only a colour and your preferences often change over time anyhow.

These numbers are a bit off. Show car paint can cost 3 to 4 times that. A color change done properly is going to be closer to 10K.

Painting is expensive having owned a couple of show cars paint can break the bank and also determine your show ranking. I paid close to 7k on paint and bodywork on my Civic. I think most of the paint on factory cars is not the good though. Finding a reputable paint shop can be a challenge because not only does it depend on the painters skills but also how they prep the car, the type of paint, resin, and clear they use and how they have your paint dry (ie bake it)

Thanks for the kinda words.
I know, i have already given this much thought.
This is what I am probably going to do. However, I am willing to wait close to forever, as with an IP, I will stand out more especially with the 2008 next gen being released to market in August and the 2008 Altima Coupe. I want to still stand out with an "older gen" g35.

maybe i am asking too much....ah well

Ahhhh. Thanks for that...
well, i think they were stating starting pricing. Not sure... whatever...i know it is not a reasonable option.
Thanks for confirming my decision on that anyhow

Yes, this is exactly what i was told.

Example, will they sand the engine bay properly etc and paint accordingly?

Also, selling the car later will be really hard....

not worth the money and headache involved.

You've pretty much got it all in a bag. When I did my second paint job, my car was sanded down to bare metal and all of the interior, moldings and, glass was removed. The car was primed, painted, wet sanded, cleared, painted again, cleared and then some (not the exact oreder but you get my drift). In the end I was more than satisfied. But keep in mind when you do any customization to your vehicles get a "custom appraisal" so that your car is completely protected by your insurance company. Heres a few pics of my Civic.

Yeah i pretty much decided not to do it for sure.

What u outlined above is bascailly what was described by the individuals i spoke with today. There is a lot of areas and proceduces to consider when repainting a car in order to look professional. And, Shop 1 standards may be different from Shop 2 standard.

Thanks for the input, really apprecaite it.

btw, the paint job on that civic looks really good. I'm sure it looked better in person and under certain light conditions. Looks very professionally done

You're welcome.

Something will come up that will make you happy. Sometimes the anticipation of an event or major purchase is half the fun.
