Summer Tires
I know there is still a ton of snow on the ground but I want to start shopping for summers now.
Are there any good deals to be had pre-season. I am looking for something mid-high performance and don't care if they only last 20k since my lease will be up spring 2008 anyway. I figure I can take off the OEM tires while they have some tread left on them and have them available to throw back on in case I need to upon return.
Also, would anyone know if a 2005 6MT with 18" wheels can handle 245/40 up from the stock 235/45 size.

It depends on what you're looking for....
Some brands, like Michelin have pathetic price stucture here.
I've been shopping for the Z4...
PS2 from Tirerack ~$1390 US; from CDN sources $2250
Other mfgs like Falken & Yokohama are basically the US price plus exchange & duty.
I'd suggest researching on Tirerack, then get comparo prices here.
FWIW...
I'm going with PS2s, bring them up from the US

I am very happy with my new BFGoodrich KDW 245/45 ZR18. I would recommend keeping the same size all around if using directional tires. This will allow you to rotate them front to back and back to front.
The BFG is very sticky and excellent in the wet. They also have a high treadwear rating compared to most. So much better than the Brdigstone OEM. I got them for $169 x4 at Tire Rack and used a local shop to install for $80. Cheers!

I just did the whole summer tire purchase thing. In the end it came down to the following:
Pilot Sport II's, which I've used.
Toyo T1R, which I've used.
Falken 452's, no experience.
Goodyear Eagle DS3, no experience.
Yokohama Advan Sport (Haven't used these, have tried Neova's)
The Pilots Sport II's are the best all 'round for sure, it's an easy choice. The problem is even from Tirerack if you pick them up they're usually 25% more than the next closest tire (or more). I was all ready to go with the Falkens based on a bunch of testimonials from the guys at e90post, but I went with the T1R's since I've used them and liked them a lot on my G. The only real downside compared to the PSII's was that they wear fast, but at $1000 for 19x275 & 19x245, vs $2000 for the PSII's.... well, ya.
Oh, fwiw, the rolling diameter of 245/40/18 is actually less than 325/45/18 (25.7" vs 26.3"), so the only thing to watch for is the clearance on the fender, which should be fine on stock wheels with only 10 more mm. Most stock wheels, including the G, are really conservative offsets, so although I can't say for sure I'd bet money 245's will be fine.

Last Fall, I bought the new Nitto Invos. They're pretty good, much better than the KDWs I had. I got 245s for the front and 275s for the back on the stock 18" wheels. Just a little under $1200cdn for all four.
