Laser Jammers

Well.... since radar detectors have been thrashed around in many threads already....
How about jammers???

Since laser guns renders most radar detectors usless,
anyone consider a jammer?

& we all know detectors are illegal, but what about jammers?

Myself and most of my friends run RMR lazer jammers, in Alberta detectors are legal as well. They seem to work well none of us have got tickets in the few months we have been running them.

I'd love to get one of those...especially when I'm minding my own business on the 407 @ 140

Ian, afaik jammers are just as illegal in Ontario as detectors; and you're just as likely to get caught. I watched some video the other day (I wish I could find it), with a few local (OPP) cops talking about how they catch people all the time with both detectors and jammers, and they confiscate them all. They also talked about how they catch them on the 401; seems like if they decide it's time to catch you, you'll be caught.

I use my detector only when needed. It's hardwires, I just pop the cable in when...uh, needed.

Edit: I am reading that thread you linked. Some of the replies are interesting. I've found my escort to be amazingly accurate and the range is quite good. I don't think I've had a single Ka band hit where I didn't see a cruiser 10-30 seconds later. A lot of those guys seem to be under the impression the detectors are useless.

I also just learned that New Brunswick allows detectors. I'm moving.

Hey Kevin,
What bands are you getting hit with most often.....
& with laser, do you pick up any transients off other vehilces?
or is it like most say... if you pick up laser, you're screwed anyway.

My buddy runs the Passport 8500X50 linked to his Laser Shifter ZR3 jammer. Works beautifully. Saved his butt last Sunday when one of the friendly neighbourhood Calgary cops was aiming his laser at traffic.

I have the 8500X50, but am seriously considering a jammer as well.

PS. Got back from Toronto/Mississauga earlier this evening. My experience on the 401 and other freeways was in the form of being a passenger in a cab. Saw a few G's and Z's on the roads. Bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour on the 401. I was glad I wasn't driving in that stuff!

X band is most often by far, but that's usually things like automatic doors. I almost never have it on when I'm in the city anymore, no point. I rarely ever see K band, and the only time I get Ka is on the highway, and like I said when I see it 100% of the time so far I've seen a cruiser within 30 seconds. I haven't had a single laser hit yet, so I don't know. I've had the thing hardwired for a little over a month and I would say there are 3 or 4 instances where I thought "good thing", although it's hard to say; you never really know if you're going to get popped. The detector kind of opens your eyes to how many cops are out there with radar.

When I watched that video they basically re-iterated what you said; if you get a laser hit the cop knows you've got a detector, it just whether he can find you in traffic or not.

Hey Joel, was he picking up laser transient signals off other cars???

...I know that if you not in traffic you'll be a dead duck,
but I'm still trying figure out if you get any warning at all with laser (from reflected hits & scatter signals).

Ian, I think in his case he was the lead car in a bunch of cars, and visually it appeared that the cop was pointing his laser at my buddy's car. The jammer kicked in, because the cop appeared to look down at his laser gun and in that short moment of opportunity my buddy slowed down. Am not entirely sure how the jammers work. I'd have to do some reading.

Did a little reading Joel.....
He looked down because he didn't get a hit & they get a that indicates they are being jammed.
If they can pick the car out, they'll nail your butt.
