Recondition Rims in GTA

Hi all,

When I purchased my car I did not check out the OEM rims close enough. Bad mistake.

I think 2-3 of them have some pretty bad curb rashes. I want to maybe recondition then before i swap out my winters for the summers.

I have been quoted about $100 per rim for reconditioning it from the dealer who uses a contractor. Does that sound right?

The sales manager says that is cost for them and that is the best he can do for me.

Is that a fair price? If not, can anyone make a suggestion as to where i should go for a quote?

Thanks in advance.

the price is about right...but whatever you do...DO NOT let them give your wheels to ALLOY WHEEL REPAIRS. They do the worst job I have ever seen. They simply sand, paint and clear coat on the wet paint. They don't prep the wheels right and you'll likely end up with overspray on your tires. They did my buddies wheels and completely screwed them up and their excuse is that they're a mobile service.

There are a couple of places that I know do a good job. Rick at Precision Rim 416-665-3038 or Steve at Collision Networks 905-669-1665 or Nigel at Rim Techniques 416-740-3773.

Avoid ALLOY WHEEL REPAIRS like the plague!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my Maya's to a guy in Pickering called Hollywood Automotive Super Store. They just moved into that location and will be having a grand opening and a car show early May. The place is huge with a big show room and an audio store right beside them in the same plaza. The location used to be a car dealership so you can imagine the size of the place. I was really impressed with the location and they even had more wheels on display than Wheels Direct. They even had Hummer shirts for sale there.

I will let you guys know if they do a good job or not, but apparently they have been doing wheel repairs for the last 20 years or so and most shops send their rim repair jobs to them. Wheels Direct sent me to them after finding out that two of my wheels were slightly bent when they balanced them today. Must have hit one h3ll of a pothole, but I don't remember.

They are going to do a complete makeover on my wheels right down to matching the centres to the body colour. Gives a whole new meaning to "Pimp" my wheels. I hope they turn out ok.

Hey, I am shopping around right now and am getting quotes. Do you have a name and number for that place in Pickering?

My tire guy told me that his costs is between 110 - 150 a tire plus taxes. He said that the 100 (at cost) quote that i got from the dealer seems pretty cheap and said to make sure that they are including a dismount and remount of the tire. Prepping it and cleaning it properly. Reconditioning it with fillers etc and then making it look like brand new. There are 3 that are rashed up but he said that i should do all 4 because after the reconditioning of the rims, they will look brighter (not clear coated though, if not clear coated, then what makes it brighter?) and u want all 4 to match.

Anything else i should make sure? I am thinking maybe i should just leave the OEM 19's as is and if the rash bothers me that much, then decide to recondition it after. Going with worse case, $150/tire seems steep :|

The place is called Hollywood Automotive Super Store. The guy's name is Jay that I've been dealing with. Phone #(905-620-0055)

My wheels are going to cost around $1300.00 to completely refinish. That includes straightening the bent wheels, stripping the surfaces of the wheels, repaint, clearcoat, high polish the machined surfaces and the lip. It's a big job so it's going to cost me alot, but yours is probably a lot simpler for them to do.

Just mention that Sam with the G35 gave you their number and maybe they will give you a deal. Not sure.

It's not given on their card so I'm not sure. Probably not because it is a brand new location and business name. They used to be located in Oshawa but had to relocate due to city requirements. Not sure why they changed their name other than they used to be three different businesses and are now one. (Tire store, wheel refinishing and audio shop)

I'm not making any recommendation yet, because I haven't even got my wheels back yet, so hold off everybody until that happens. I'll keep you posted.

Anyone know a good powder coat shop that is familiar with wheel refinishing? (at a reasonable cost)
....No repairs required, just painting.
