Thanks for the heads up Wayne - timely, actually. On Friday evening I put my repaired 19 back on the car, but the ratchet mechanism on my 1/2" drive torque wrench broke. I'm not very mechanically adept so I don't know how to fix it. Luckily I was able to finish the job with my 3/8" drive torque wrench and still squeeze in a backroads blast before our weekend chill. But I definitely prefer my 1/2" drive wrench. Will stop by Cdn Tire later today. What brand is on sale?

I think all they carry is their own label.

a torque wrench is basically a adjustable torque ratchet, yes you can use them for you lug nuts and yes you would need a socket that fits onto your lugs

Yes the 1/2" drive torque wrench is perfect for that application. You just have to purchase a 1/2" drive socket to fit your lug nuts.

Ya man.....There's a specific torque appropriate for all fasteners, and the torque wrench, which can be adjusted to that specific torque, is the tool for that job.
Lug nuts are especially important since overtightening can be expensive, and undertightening can be dangerous...

You buy t/wrenches with different 'drives', but the ones most useful to us are 1/2" and 3/8" inch drives with the appropriate sockets for each drive.
A set of Metric sockets and SAE sockets will be needed for different uses.

I have both these drives but would like to add a 1/4" drive wrench also.

Just added a 1/4 drive this year...
Great for those delicate jobs, like plenum spacers.
They aren't quite as readily available though.... I had to order mine.

I had to get a socket extension as well because the wheel lugs are set in real deep. There are only 2 size of sockets in CTC and even with the deeper one, I couldn't clear it.

Anyone else have this problem?

Visited the nearest Cdn Tire - apparently they sold out early yesterday. They wrote me up a rain check so hopefully I'll be able to pick up another one within the month. Will have to make do with my 3/8" drive torque wrench in the meantime.
