New (USED) g35 coupe ... soon

Hey all

Saved up and am now looking to buy a used g35 coupe with no more than 45k KM. I would prefer to buy from a reputable dealer in the GTA but have couple questions. After this purchase i will be broke for a while, so wiht the g35 coupe will i need to be taking it in often for the first year after the purchase?

I know the brakes and rotors go fast on these suckers so is it reasonable asking for new sets no matter there conditions.

Also, you guys know of any dealers with good service that would take care of me rather than rip me.

Any advice would be of great help!

If you are broke after the car I suggest you save more. Gas will kill you and if you travel with this car a lot be prepare to pay 400 bucks a month or so.

Most of the major stuff should be covered under the powertrain warranty. And, if you're lucky, your used G will still have the bumper to bumper.

i have to agree. you never want to extend yourself to the point where any unforeseen issue could put you in a debt situation. owning a G is a want, not a need. so you really need to think through the decision of "putting all your eggs in one basket". there a lots of other great, less-expensive, cars out there if money is an issue. you can get into a nice A4 for mid-teens for example.

i don't know what price point you are looking at. if you are entering the G market at the very bottom, be extra careful. there is a reason those cars are priced that low. although for a car with 45K max your into an '04-'05 so you shouldn't have too much to be worried about.

that being said, you will certainly still have powertrain warranty (6yr/110K), probably even bumper-bumper (4yr/100K) to look after major stuff. you may need to get creative with maintenance items, they can be co$tly! the 48K service alone can easily be several hundred dollars.

I know the brakes were much improved from '05 for the sedans. Since then there is no longer the premature brake wear issue. Not sure if that's true for the coupe.

The best advice is to get a thorough inspection of the car done by a knowledgable and trustworthy source before buying. They will be able to provide an estimate on the potential repairs/maintenance you may need and the condition of the car.

ok thanks for all the help guys. My price range is about $35 tax in so a 05 coupe is out of the question. I found an 03 for about that price at a dealership but they have no VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT on the car. So i realy know nothing about the previous owner(s). and the mechs at the dealership said that the car only needed an oil change and other than that was in "mint condition". find that hard to believe though. oh btw its at 38k km. im so excited to get this car that i may not be thinking logically lol. I think i should be taking this to a private mechanic either way.

yes, take it to a reputable mechanic. just because you don't have any history on the car doesn't make it a bad car, but you need to have an inspection to give you a better idea of the car's condition.

38k on an '03 could be a great find...and priced at $35k you have room for negotiation, i'd say several thousand.
