Tranny replaced by dealership...

I have had recent problems with my manual tanny (fifth gear grinding) so I took it in and they said they would replace it. They made a bit of a deal at first but to make a long story short, they replced it and installed me a new tranny. They also ended up changing the clutch pedal a bit so that now, I notice the pedal is much easier to press... my question is if there is any drawback to having the clutch pedal loosened (does it wear out the clutch faster)?

Was the clutch replaced as well? The '05+ has a lighter clutch.

They had to have changed out something to make it easier. You should find out exactly what they did to make your clutch feel differently. I'm curious too. There is nothing to adjust to make it "easier" to press. In any case you shouldn't have to worry about wear. You can't "loosen" a clutch to create premature wear.

While we're on the clutch topic with new tranny. Any specific tips on how to drive a newly replaced tranny? possibily new clutch as well?

Also, any way to find out if they really DID repalce with a new tranny? rather than looking on the paper work?

If you have a new clutch you need to do 300-500 miles of city driving and be very nice to it. No hard shifts or anything.

Congrats on the new tranny...... Not sure why they'd make a fuss about a know issue, -- perhaps they hadn't done many up 'til now

The lighter clutch is probably due to a lighter return spring.....that's a good thing....

So many people with this problem...

It sucks when the warranty is gone and it comes back.

I thought of that too but there are numerous people on here saying their clutch still does return all the way, so I didn't think that was it.

Tranny replaced by dealership

I have a question for all those who had their transmission replaced at the dealership.

I have a 2003 G35 with 6 speed manual and had my transmission replaced last fall (along with installing a lightweight JWT flywheel and Nismo lightened clutch disc since installation was virtually free since they had the transmission removed) due to the same problem with "5th gear" issue.

I noticed after getting my new transmission that 6th gear is now much more stiff than before -- i.e it is quite difficult to get the shifter to shift into 6th gear -- it takes quite a bit of force (much more than the other 5 gears) and feels like the shift gate for 6th gear is very narrow (or that the shift gate was slightly misaligned).

I'm curious if others who have had their transmission changed have also noticed this "stiff 6th gear" with their new transmissions?

Thanks.
