Roger's Internet New IP Address Problem

It's probably old news but those of you on Roger's internet and are having difficulties connecting to websites, it's because they put you on a new 99.xxx.xxx.xxx ip address.

Roger's is slowly correcting the problem so while you may be thinking certain sites are down, it may be because of your IP address.

eg. Costco.ca was not available but that's corrected now.

I can't reach sites that are fairly well known like:

Tomtom.com - GPS Manufacturer...want to get some info on the TomTom One I may get.

Can't get to Golfsmith.com...want to compare golf club prices. I'll have to settle for Edwin Watts.

Anybody else with Roger's and got 99.xxx.xxx.xxx IP and can reach these sites?

Also, does anyone in Richmond Hill have DSL service yet?

put a router in between will solve all your problems plus it will act as a firewall kind off.

Got a router. It's the IP address Roger's assigns to your modem and since the router's NAT your connection, the internet will only see the one IP address which is the one Roger's assigns.

A search showed:

"The problem is the 99.*.*.* IP address

Routing tables around the world simply don't know how to route packets destined for these newly released IP addresses. Rogers has been attempting to get network operators to update their routing tables but it's a slow process and many operators are reluctant to update until the new assignees prove that they have routers responding to the addresses at the other end to prevent circular routing.

This just takes time ... sometimes weeks or even a couple months until network operators get their act together. In the meantime, many just dump packets destined for these newly released addresses."

Big thanks goes to Roger's to release changes that impact customers.
