That sucks. I wonder if they will replace with the new Intelli key for free?

^the article seemed to suggest that would happen in the fall. I think it is a given it will be free.

same thing happens for hotel keys though. There really isn't a fix for this I don't think unless they remove the smart key feature.

The article says there is a fix and the new keys will be out in the fall.

I had a similar issue with my M's I-key(s) when I got the car , but not since.
I have had a similar issue with my CSX key tho which for some reason temporarily lost its ability to be recognized by the computer. In that case it was a matter of removing any other key fobs, credit cards, and cell phone from the area and re-incerting the key. At that time it worked.

The M's keys had to be reprogrammed to cure the issue.

I missed the issue in the star, and will have to read up on it but it does seem that our keys (regular and intelligent) are very sensitive to other keys and sources of radio waves etc etc.

The article is the "wheels" link in the first post. I had to have one of my G keys reprogrammed when it lost it's memory for some unknown reason. Fortunately I was at home and had another key.

The trouble with the intelligent key according to the article is it cannot be reprogamed.

Yes tnx, Deane, I've now read the article and see that the problem is more severe than I experinced when my M was new.....

I do remember at that time tho that they strongly suggested not putting any other fobs, keys, credit cards, cells or anything else like that near my I-key.
Seems those intermingling signals can be at least disruptive if not destructive....

Good to know, in case like you say, you get stranded.

I liked it but I don't think that key is for me. I hate keeping one in my pocket especially when driving. I tended to throw it in the cupholder spot along with my wallet and phone with the M I had yesterday and today.
