LOL, good point psychol, and the Si is similar to my newest toy : an Acura CSX type S and a real treat to drive too..... and at the prices of those Bimmers, about half the cost.......

I think the OP had something a little more special in mind tho, and given his parameters, I could live with the 335 -- (tho of course the M would be even nicer....)

I'd get the 335i sedan. I've always liked big power sedans so it'd be nice to have a M3 performance level sedan (with some modding of course).

Next spring I'm going to buy either the G37 or 335i. Can't wait.

I thought that the M3 was a better looking car than the 335i until this past Friday when they had a 335i on display at my golf course. Dark grey colour....it looked really good! I can only imagine how nice it would look in that blue that Ian was raving about (Monaco or Montego blue??). For the M3..I have seen Interlagos blue with the competition package and almost fell over in love ( with a pic even...not in person). I do see an M6 in my future at some point as well....sex on wheels that beast. Thought a three series would be a great intro into the bimmer world. Amazing what the pricing difference is between US and Canadian cars.

Seems like the M3 is the favorite car for Ginos in Toronto (Woodbridge and 905's) who still live with their Mom/Dad who act like they are young Gotti. Better yet wait for the new M3 which will be more exclusive for a few years until they depreciate. Also you want a a full warranty on a BMW so I would take a new 335 over a used e46 M3 in a second.

How many M3 owners race their cars on a track let alone even know how to drive them properly? The 335 coupe looks better and can be made MUCH faster quite easily.

I would suggest that you conduct comphrensive test drives of both vehicles before purchasing. You should also determine what your tuning goal is for each car i.e. tuning a 335i is vastly less expensive than tuning an E46 M3.You may however have a larger initial outlay to achieve the same overall handling performance. As good as the 335i is with the M performance package, it still does not have the measure of a stock E46 M3 in terms of handling. There have been some reports of blown turbos with 335i’s that have had minimal engine tuning. I personally would select an E46 M3 with SMG II over a 335i sedan. I find the sedan to have more appealing lines and overall design fluidity than the 335i coupe’.

I for one love the M3, but the new 335 is hott the new body style is nice and sleek...and a friend of mine recently purchased a 335 convertible white on tan leather...OMG is all i can say about that. As for the M6 that is one of my all time favorites...if only it were in my bugdet
i say go for the 335...and here's a pic of the beast that i dream of daily....lol

any choice is a good choice in this league.......the next gen M3 is an animal for sure...and looks great, but probably a $90 000 plus vehicle...would rather purschase a six series for that kind of coin.

BTW, what kind of power gains are people getting from chip installs on their 335i coupes..and how much are these chips? Also...would not want to mod an M3....beastly enough for me already.

335i + PROcede w/ Vishnu exhaust = bye bye M3 (straight line only) and you'll spend about the same amount as a used 2006 E46 M3.
