(oh btw, 1900km in two days on the 335i, 3600 over 7 days and the only thing I blew up was my wife's head... radar detectors are legal in NY State! )
Oh, I'm so relieved you didn't have any blown flamistrans or overheated cadidlehoppers in that 'troublesome' bimmer......

Welcome home, Kev.....Check out our Shannonville thread.....

Checked it out, replied!

I actually spent half a day at Shannonville on the way to Vermont w/the 335i on their first pay per lap day. It overheated so much we cooked bacon on the hood.

Go for 335. It is more comfortable with NO LESS track capability and performance, than M3.
Look for yourself:
335-100 % stock on Potenza 050 tires, experienced autocrosser
M3-looks like no mods, Toyo RA1 tires, experienced autocrosser

I was 2 seconds slower. Another guy(first timer) was 1.4 seconds slower than me in same 335 .

This point is not relevant. You don't know what's in those Civics-B18? stripped interior? roll cage?R-compounds? On autocross course they will slaughter anything...and probably give run for the money on track to M3 as well.
Looks like you never visited any autox event. Do it and be spanked by middle aged chick in 1990 Cavalier Z24, like those guys in G35 and 350 Z got lower down the chart.

I am giving comparison of 2 equally capable drivers(I've been autocrossing with them for about 3 years) in cars from same manufacturer in similar configuration(RWD, about 1500 kg weight and 300+ hp) on the same course.

Well, if it makes anyone feel any better or worse the 335i doesn't seem to be any less track capable than the e46 M3. There are plenty of times on tracks where it does similar speeds/times, including hockenheim, nurburgring, etc... I think what it really comes down to is the track itself; the 335i excels at tracks where other cars with better high ends need to downshift a lot to stay in their power band. The 335i has the advantage of having all it's power down low. Where it struggles is in tight twists against other cars with stiffer suspensions. Pick whichever suits you.

Test drove a 2006 Interlagos Blue Competition package today on my way home from Ottawa.....very impressive. What a driver's car. Alot more money than a new 335i coupe though. They are a bargain through the US compared to here!! High dollar=opportunities
