Overall, the experience was pretty straight forward. Had the car shipped from Arizona by a company called AAA Transports-----pretty good deal for door to door delivery ---cost me only $1400 CAD---and they had it literally at my front door 5 days after picking the car up. I had them arrange a broker for me as well to deal with all the paper work and fees at the border---cost me another $120 for their service.

When it was all said and done, the car cost me $21K, with duties, taxes, shipping, certification and incidentals, the grand total came to just shy of $27K-----still a pretty good deal in my eyes.

Good Luck---let me know if you need any more details..
HOW MUCH was the same car in your area?

If you have to pay additional PST it may work out to be the same price as in Canada. But the question is can you find the exact car your looking for in Canada? I couldn't- black on black, brembos, 6mt, navi, areo aka every option with less than 60 000km's on it is impossible. However, there were a handfull of them in the US.

The only option on a 6mt car was navi. Everything else is standard equipment.

Did you know the bank rate is negotiable? If you have any sort of relationship with your bank, you can always demand a better rate. If you have your investments, mortgage, etc. with one bank, you should be able to knock off a significant amount from their posted rate. You can also get them to wave the wire transfer fees as well.

If negotiations with your bank fail - just call the closest calforex (www.calforex.com). They have by far the very best exchange rates for the average consumer. I was going to go with calforex before my banker told me he would do his best to match. He came close enough...so I completed my US purchase through my bank (RBC).

In the end I think I saved a few hundred bucks...but that's few hundred bucks you could use for mods ...or maintenance
