Importing a G35 coupe to Canada
Hi guys!
this will be my saddest, most depressing morning... I just got a call from my dealership saying that all the G35coupe in ivory pearl are all sold out in canada, even the demo one from the dealership!
I think my last chance will be to get it from the states. I wonder if anyone here already did this before? And what is the exact procedure from A to Z?
I guess I must buy the car in that case, cuz I was thinking to lease it before....
thx for the inputs!

Imported a Ivory White 05 M6 sedan from Arizona
Hey,
Don't know if this advice is coming to late, but, I just imported my 05 G into Canada from Arizona back in Nov. Had a lot of fun searching for the perfect ride and found it at a dealership (Avondale Nissan).
Car is mint----and is what a sweet deal---only $21K for a fully loaded G --even came with 20" wheels, Stillen exhaust and wild system.
The process is pretty straight forward in getting the car to Canada. All the information and steps you'll need are outlined on the following site www.riv.ca ---it'll walk you right through the steps. You'll need to arrange to have the car shipped on your own, but there's lots of company's offering that service. Just one tip....when it comes time to convert to daytime running lights for certification---skip the $1000 conversion costs the dealer is going to charge and spend $20 on a simple converter from Canadian Tire.

Good post Ironring.
I'm also importing my G from the states. The price difference is STAGGERING on these cars. You can get an 05 or an 06 with under 40K miles for between $20K and $25K.
I believe these cars are manufactured in North America, so you don't pay any duty. You pay an "air conditioning tax" (blatant money grab) and applicable taxes. Plus whatever the the daytime running light conversion costs you. But as Ironring pointed out, you can buy kits for pretty cheap at Crappy Tire.
Cars in general are so much cheaper in the States, it's sickening. Someone in this thread pointed out leasing an 08...that's pretty expensive. Fair enough if you can afford that. But I'm looking at a couple of G's and they're both under $24K. That's a pretty good deal on a car that sells easily for over $30K up here.

All Infiniti's and Nissan's are made in Japan. The first letter of all their VIN # is J. Which means Japan. Therefore after you have notified the border crossing 72 hours in advance that you are bringing a car into Canada, you need to pay 6% brokerage(for being made in Japan) And you also have to pay 5% GST. Then you need the out of country inspection(DRL's & child saftey restraint buckle thing) Then an out of prov.(more of a saftey inspection) Then your good to go. There are a few smaller steps to look at RIV outlines them all.

Thanks.
Thanks.
Couple things to keep in mind are:
+ Duties are 6.1%; this fee is due at the border before you can bring the vehicle across the border
+ You will need all recalls letters from the manufactuers and all vehicle information (copy and faxed to the agencies listed on RIV); inform customs you will be arriving 48 hours before departure
+ You will need to also pay GST at the border on the vehicle before you can bring it over, PST will be charged when you insure your vehicle I believe, You will also need to pay an RIV fee; ~$300 I think
+ Only modification required for the G35C is that the DRLs are installed in the vehicle
+ Federal Inspections must be carried out within 30 days; unless you file for an extension. Most of the time they will grant you one; but maximum I have heard is around 6 months.
+ You will then need to get your car inspected at Crappy Tire. Crappy Tire will only check for one thing 99% of the time; that is if DRLs are installed. Once Crappy Tire passes your inspection; you get a sticker you place in your door jab and your car can now be insured. A Crappy Tire Inspection is also ~$200 I think
I have checked out some of the fees with shipping a vehicle from the states; regardless which state; I have found lowest quote I recieved was for $1800. If you go this route; they will bring your car to a customs hold facility where you pay your fees; and you will gain access to the vehicle.

RIV fee is $195 not $300
Federal Inspections must be carried out within 45 days not 30
Once Crappy Tire passes your inspection; you get a sticker you place it in your door jam which is sent to you from the Government after you pass not Crappy Tire. At this point you can go plate your vehicle and pay PST on the amount you paid for the vehicle. You can insure your vehicle before hand and need to in order to transport it. I can't remember the type of insurance that it is called though.
I am paying $400 to have mine shipped to the border (MI state)
