Bathroom Renovations

I've been doing bathroom renovations the last little while. Our bathroom was quite dated (the house is 31 years old) and we wanted to replace the bathroom window, the tub, countertop, etc.

It started out as a routine window installation.......until we removed the window and some ceramic tile. The entire window frame, dry wall, and studs were completely rotten. It always seem to be a MUCH bigger job than you anticipate.

Check out how black and rotten the 2x4 studs were.

And now with the window and tub replaced, along with new studs, insulation and vapor barrier. The new drywall is being replaced tomorrow. I can't wait for this whole project to be done. I find that when one room is being renovated, the entire house is a mess.

Wow the water must have really been seeping in there for quite a while. Looks great now though.

I went through a similar renovation a few years ago, I decided to replace the ceramic tile above the tub and found the wallboard was damp then it led to tearing it out and the old domino effect started and before I new it I ripped out the tub, the walls, toilet, the sink and gutted the whole bathroom. I tell you I was pretty busy each night after work repacing everything. I could not dilly-dally since it was our only bathroom. K was a bit impatient .
These home projects can get frustrating.

Nice job. You are quite a handyman if you did all of that by yourself.

I know what it's like. I just finished gutting and rebuilding the powder room a week ago, and I have to do the same to the master bedroom and ensuite bath later this summer.

Looks like you're gaining on it now.

Wow, that was a real rotten mess. It wasn't very healthy either so good thing you caught it now and fixed it. Good job so far Shane.

Just to clarify too, I hired a contractor to do my renovations. I have helped out quite a bit, but I am by no means qualified to do this entire project myself. Helping out is a great learning experience though.

No worries. I've been thinking about this for a few days and then remembered your project. I didn't think we had seen the end result.
