Winter Tires 07 6MT Coupe

Yeah I know it's depressing to talk about winter right now, but I'm starting my search for winter tires. I searched the forum, but there's a patchwork of questions and answers on this topic.

I can easily put up with the TPMS staring at me, I already drive with the VDC off all the time, so I'm thinking about picking up a set of regular black steel rims and some good winter tires.

My question though is what tire sizes have worked best? I'm going to try and put as high of profile tire on as I can, but I want to make sure the rims clear the brakes.

Gave me lots of great advice and service. I ended up buying locally because of a price match.
GL on your search. Some OEM 17" rims usually cost the same or a little bit more as steelies and look much better. FWIW, I picked up some sedan rims.

koloman, I bought a set of 18" FRD 68 (Anthracite) for my g along with some Blizzak LM-25. The Infiniti dealership here in Calgary sells this setup and I'm happy with it except I have to get new winter tires since the Blizzak only last for two winter seasons. I'm planning on getting some Toyo Garit KX because the winter weather here changes a lot and the rubber compound on the Blizzaks are really soft. If you have the $$ the other opinion is the Dunlop Winter Sport M3.

Good luck with your tire selection!

on my 2003 i use:

pirelli 210's
225/50/17 front
235/50/17 rear

this was the stock tire size on the "base" z that was available in the US, so i felt comfortable with that setup.

I only turn VDC off when I need to get moving at a slushy intersection or parking lot.

If you go with 17s consider Yokohama IG721's. They're not that expensive and have a pretty stiff sidewall. I've had mine for two Alberta winters. One winter with light snow and mostly dry roads and the other winter with lots of snow and ice. Worked great in all situations and the tires are still pretty much brand new.
