335 engine review updates

After driving it for a few more days, I now understand why people would be so in love with the 335. The 4th gear pull at highway speed is just amazing... The powerband is just so freaking board and the engine is really smooth too.

Sigh, will I go to the dark side?...

Not to be a "hater" on BMW but how can such a great company such as BMW only get 330hp out of a twin turbo six? Shouldn't this thing have at least 400hp? I also hear that they are having issues with overheating?

How can a skyline GTR pull a 280hp out of a Twin turbo six? Same goes for Toyota Supra.

Even still, BMW is still superior to those cars, the torque on the dyno is flat as a table. That's something you rarely see coming from any company.

You asked the right guy the right questions lol =)
It is about the driveability..not the peak numbers... even though I park my G in a sea of bimmers everyday
I gotta say that.. I am impressed with the overall driving dynamics that they offer.

But I guess I just can't afford one for now lol...

Well as far as the horsepower on the supra and skyline the reason is simple. Japanese manufactures agreed to have a 280hp cap on their cars.

Yea you should if you want to over heat your engine everyday.. 335 has major cooling issues.. not sure if its been taken care of.. but last i heard of bmw knows about the problem but has yet to fix it..

It is because they are stupid enough to not offer Oil Coolers in the Automatics for the North American market....

Oh well, I will make sure that I get all the people to back me up (technical wise) if I decide to get one lol... since I know that it will be a money pit especially if I want to "touch" the car.

It's 300hp, and it isn't because they couldn't get more, it's because they don't want to compete with the M. People have tuned the N54 up to over 400hp/440lb/ft of torque already, BMW could have easily made it a 500hp engine. The point is, as godmans mentioned, driveability - they wanted a car that got all it's torque down low (1300rpm) so they put in very small turbos.

I'd love to see the evidence behind this "overheat every day" claim. As far as I know there have been maybe 6 overheats total, all on the track after multiple hot laps. I've got 16k km on my car, 4 full track days, and constant 90F+ weather, and can't make my car overheat. I've tried.

Picus - Since you own a 335i, may as well ask you, I always was curious to know if the car had a stock blowoff valve. I know I know, it's probably a stupid question
