My sister finnally got her car back after the car was sitting there for a few months..while we were in the court battle for a new engine..they ended up settling before we even went to court..

she has an 03 coupe..and while she was driving recently..the service light came on..so we took it in..and the problems were as listed:

Vapor Canister 243.87
Purge Control Valve 136.17
Muffler 524.95
Gasket 7.63
Nut 4.11
_______
Sub Total 920.84

Plus 3 Hours Labor 315.00
_______
Total 1235 + Taxes!


I still haven't spoken with the service manager personally..but from what i hear...there is a crack in the canister..and the exhaust does sound a little bit more rougher...could that be the canister? or the valve?...

So i know i can get a used muffler from the marketplace for under a hundred..
just wondering if they could be trying to milk my sister out of more money then needed..i am in Mississauga, Ontario..anyone know of any shops in this area where i could get a second opinion?...

The vapour canister has nothing to do with exhaust.
It's a charcoal canister that collects fuel vapour from the gas tank while the car is off.
Then when the car starts the vapours are fed to the intake & burned.
If it's damaged, it could throw a CEL.
Unless the canister has been bumped... it's HIGHLY unusual that it would crack.

O2 sensors yes... but muffler????
-unless it was plugged & causing back pressure, I don't see how it could throw a CEL.


W/O knowing/seeing your problems..... it sounds like they're looking to run up the $$$

I would suggest a 2nd opinion from an independent tech, like Simone.

I thought this was interesting since it is a highly reccomended shop around the GTA.

I found it on a Toronto Maxima site I still belong to. They also praise Vic's shop.
