Targa Newfoundland in a G - am I nuts?

So being from the rock, I really want to drive my G in the Targa NFLD. www.targanewfoundland.com. They have a division where you can drive any car you want without need of a roll cage or a rally computer. Basically it is a "touring" competition.

My friends think I'm nut because they figure I'l' beat the living snot out of the car during the 4 days the race is on but I think it will be a blast. What do you guys think - am I nuts?

There was a guy from Que a couple of years ago that drove a Coupe . I believe that he won his class

Do you have any experience driving in a rally?

It sounds like fun though.

Have you considered taping the front end/ edge of the wheel wells to protect from rock chips.

Cool idea. Sounds like a blast. However, it's a pretty rugged course and risky if you drive aggressively at all. I wouldn't do it in my car.

^^^+1 , if you do it I think you should expect at the minimum a few chips and scratches. It would be fun though.

I am assumming you have watched the targra before so you have seen how hard it is on cars. Personnally I wouldnt subject my G to that kind of abuse but its your car. It would be a good time and great experience. Like the guy above said Tape you front bumper and wheel wells to avoid rock chips like all the other rally cars.

Its going to be a blast but your cars going to take a beating. The g isn't made for that type of abuse.

Curse you all and your logic. So I guess the general consensus is that I'll beat the crap out of the car. There is a new class called the "Touring" where basically you just follow along the road race, but you don't actually get to drive like a maniac on the closed roads. Sounds a little pansy-esk to me.

Here is the guide from last year -

http://www.targanewfoundland.com/pdf...ide%202007.pdf

There were a couple of 911's in the GT class and some guy entered a volvo T5. I'm going to call the organizer tomorrow and see what he says. I'll keep you guys up to date. Right now, I give myself a 50/50 chance I may do this. I figure I have my old bumper and side skirts from before I put on my nismo bumper - so I may just swap that out before the road race, and leave them at my parents house after the race and before I head back to Ontario.

Nope - but I watched Cannonball Run 2 at least 20 times and that monkey limo driver keeps getting funnier everytime I watch it.

LOL.

I think you'd have a blast and if you drive conservatively with the car properly prepped you may minimize damage. Still logical but maybe a little closer to what you want to hear.
