when i was a student i had a civic. i changed belts at 96k kms as recommended. the mechanic said i probably had another 30-40k kms on the original belt. it's just not worth the risk...

Quick before someone blows a whole lot of money on something that doesn't need to be done.
ALL Hondas are interference engines. So if the belt breaks it will bend a valve.
That Camry you speak of, non interference so the belt breaks it doesn't touch the valves and runs like a champ again.
4Runners on the other hand, interference.
Your t-belt needs to be done at 90,000miles which would be about 145k i think. The book says 160K (100K miles) but its ideal as far as precautionary to do it at 90K with your major service. If you have 86K thats probably about 45K miles, 1/2 the interval. Tell that guy blow off, just because its 8 years old means nothing. Maybe she doesnt drive it much, and thats just fine.
G's have chains. 3 of them i've been seeing so many people ask about that, they should search on here because its been answered many times.
