Tested my Blizzaks WS-50

Finally snow is here(Toronto) and I got to test my new Blizzak WS-50(215-55-17). They kick azz! There's wheelspin of course, but with light foot on accelerator there're lots of grip and I found myself leaving other cars in the dust(or snow) from the stop lights. Braking and cornering are excellent as well.
I got them from tirerack.com, arrived in 3 or 4 days, cost around $570 CAD all taxes, shipping and brokerage in. Another $75 to mount and balance.

Good stuff, glad to hear the Blizzaks treated you well this morning. I haven't been able to test out my new Blizzaks yet, but that's fine by me.

I am thinking I am going to get these. I had these on my VW when I lived in Duluth, MN and they were a lifesaver.

I'm thinking of going with WS-60s as it is getting hard to find WS-50s. How much better are WS-60s? Do they integrate any new tire technology?

Obender, was that the price with wheels or just the tires? I got a quote for 4 16" WS-60s for my '04 coupe for $670 and that was for WS-60s. Wheels would be about $150x4 extra.

They don't make WS-50 anymore and WS-60 is their replacement. So they are definitely as good, most likely some improvements have also been made to them.

The same thing cost a bit over $800 in the GTA, 2 years ago!

That was price for tires only.

I have never had them Sam, I have been using Blizzaks on my last couple of cars because of their good service for me. I have also used Nokians, Yokohomas and they performed excellent also.
IMHO I think any of the big major name tires will have good quality winter tires and will perform close or comparably with each other. Some might be a bit better on ice while others might be better in snow.
If the Michelins sound like they are made for your conditions then I would get them especially if you can save $20/tire.

How would you compare the Blizzak to your old tires? I think the ones you sold me are quite good (Kumho KW19). Thanks. After the first snow I was so surprised at the confidence I can drive with now that I have winter tires. Last night when it was snowing like crazy I was the one doing the passing lol.

I just got my WS-50's on and it has been a lifesaver. The car is actually manageable in snow now. This is my 3rd set I've had and once again I'm impressed with the traction. My sister just got a set of the WS-60's and I have to say they do look a little better. I haven't driven on them yet though.
