Re: Radar Detector

Ya thanks for the info im probably going to be debating buying one for quite some time but ya i definatly know the way cops act at the end of the month... Once one the way to school i was driving down a road infamous for cops using laser detectors and he parked his cruiser in the bushes on the other side of the road and was HIDING behind a damn electric pole only sticking out the little lazer gun and that annoying ugly hat of his. This would be to the former cop do you guys have like end of the moth quota you have to meet?

Re: Radar Detector

If you are driving that fast....especially consistenly I would definitly recommend one, just dont cheap out and get something useless. Do some research on the latest and greatest and invest in a good one.

Re: Radar Detector

Edmonton seems to be the photo radar capital of the world. I find the V-1 is useful as it picks up the radar van about 50 to 100 yards away, and the K-band signal they use (virtually all other photo-radar is Ka) increases rapidly in strength. as soon as you're beside him, the things on full alert tone. If you keep your eyes open to vehicles at the side of the road, the V-1 can save your butt!

Re: Radar Detector

A quick read on the link provided at the beginning of the thread will help you out. VG2 is old school- read on for what isn't protected against. Knowledge is power, kind sir.

Re: Radar Detector

Valentine has been working on being invisible to the Spectre RDD as well as a few other upgrades for the next V-1. It's been a while, so I expect they'll be ready in the next little while. I'm thinking of getting my 1998 V-1 upgraded at that time. As it is, it's still better than the Passport 8500 IMO.

Re: Radar Detector

Every test I've read puts the V1 and Passport at the top of the list- though I own neither currently, from the tests, each has its strengths and weaknesses. My own money will be spent on a Valentine. I emailed them directly to ask about stealth. They will not claim to be invisible to all the new threats, and are especially "respectful" of the equipment used in Ontario. Remember, bottom line is that the cat and mouse game will go on ad nauseum until a local oscillator is not employed in the detector. And as I suggested, far better to lose a detector than lose one's license. (Gord, note my previous comment not directed your way. Flat, it reads that way rather than in the threaded format)

Cheers,
Derek

No problem. I realized that you were responding to another post.

BTW, for any questions, just call them. I've had several conversations with Mike Valentine himself on occasion! He won't identify himself unless you ask, but the first time, I recognized his voice from an interview I heard long ago. It's pretty cool that the President of the Company sometimes answers his own toll-free lines. Mind you, I usually answer my own as well
