Winter Rims TPMS

I am thinking of taking off the stock all seasons/rims when I get the car Monday and put on some steelies/snow tires.

Thing is if I do that the TPMS light will stay on all winter, If I do manage to find a set of 4 tpms sensors that match the car for cheap, how difficult is it to reset the TPMS every change?

If you do get 4 sensors that are compatible with your car, then you have to get them recalibrated with your car each time you change your rims. My Dealer said they charge $50 to recalibrate.

Not worth it, don't bother buying extra sensors.
Use the money you save to put a decent set of winter alloys on the car instead of butt-ugly steelies, yech , the car deserves better.

^ I was reading somewhere that I think it was BMW now has dual settings for the TPMS so you can have another set of tires without hassles.

That would be handy .
On my 05 G35X I had sensors in both sets of rims (because they were in the used set I bought) but I never even bothered to get the one set calibrated since I would have to do it each spring and fall. It would have been great in that case.

But, I still would not bother going through the expense of purchasing 4 sensors for my extra set of rims on my 07 even if I had that feature.

I didnt think it was worth the money. My winter setup doesnt have the sensors and you get used to the light.

I left my sensors in my winter set up since I don't want to check pressures in the blowing snow and frigid temps . I don't mind keeping an eye on the pressures in the summer though.

That's good thinking Wayne. I think I would like that better too.

I tried to have a tire repaired on my van yesterday but they couldn't find the leak. I need to watch it and if it gets low again take it back in for the deep water bath to be diagnosed.

Steelies with hubcaps = acceptable. Without looks awful on a nice car.

I have that problem on my Z71 Deane. Factory alloy rims are nice but after 10 years of year round use, they start to lose air sometimes at the tire bead, due to the alloy getting corroded. I have a one rim that I have to add a few pounds to every couple of weeks. I am sure they are leaking at the bead and I will have to get them cleaned up to stop the leak.

I'm running the stock OEMs with 225/55/17 Blizzaks and aftermarket 18" rims for the rest of the year (it's in my sig). Whenever I get rid of my car I will put my OEM All Seasons back on the OEM rims.

Yeah, I understand that. I had to have them cleaned up on my Dakota years ago when it was 6-7 years old. My van is only 30 months old and has steelies. I think the guy just did a lousy job looking for a leak. I'm going to check it again tomorrow.

This is the third tire I've had a problem with to date. Two other times were nails in the other van tires.

Actually, I installed a set of 16" alloys with Blizzaks and the light hasn't come on once. I've probably driven 500 miles or so on them and nothing yet? I drive about ~75 miles per day and still no TPMS light...

Also if you go with 17" steelies.. how wide are they? by 7? 225 refers to the width right? I was wondering if I can go narrower...
