Anyone buy a used G35 Coupe in the past year or two?

so my cousin bought a 93' Mazda RX7 Twin Turbo in '95 for approx $20,000 cdn and then after 10 years or even 11 years in 2006 sold it for $20,000 freakin dollars!! with minimal mods!!

So here I am...I bought an 03 G35 Coupe M6 blk on blk last year for about $33,000..thinking I got a good deal too I even haggled with the dealer! (you remember when these were such a hot item last year?..so hard to get!!..here I am thinking these are the top of the lines cars Infiniti has to offer) and after only 1 damn year...I go check out auto trader and I see these exact cars going for $18,000?!!? we're talking COUPE!! WHAT THE HELK IS THAT ABOUT? Is there something wrong with these cars or what? Why did it depreciate SOOO much in just 1yr?? Im so pissed!!

I only saw one in the trader in the $18's but it had 144 000km and was $18 888.

Never the less, I agree, the depreciation is as bad as the gas milage. I was going to sell mine but couldn't get anything for it and gave up.

There are a lot of factors; high cdn$, new model out, not a car to sell in winter.

Reality of cheaper US imports is also a factor in bringing CDN prices down. Used US models are easily $5-7K cheaper than used CDN models right now. New are almost $10K cheaper...

FWIW, Been here, suffering that. However I just reminding myself how much I enjoy driving my G. I've been on the loosing end of many investments, stocks, etc. None of them have given me the pleasure my coupe has ( so far, 126 000 k's) on a daily basis.

^+1....
If it was worth it to you at the time you bought.... just drive & enjoy.
There will always be low ball cars on 'trader, often they've been in accidents.
Some may even have been rebuilt write offs....

The best thing you can do to maintain market value in a car is look after it and keep records.
A well kept car will always sell well.

Bought my Z for $40,000 after tax back in 05. Sold it in Dec 06 for $23,000. These cars depreciate way too fast. The only reason your cousin's rx-7 value stayed up well is because they stopped sales in North America in 94 I believe. So it was harder to get. As for G/Z's, there's constant new models coming out so it never ends and price will always go down as new models come out. G35/Z's sell like candies, rx-7's don't.

I agree with the other posters and would add: A '93 RX7 bought in '95 for $20K was stolen. The car new was about 36K and realistically should have sold for 30k or so in '95. 1995 was also the last year for the car in NA. It is a highly sought after car that sold in low numbers only for a few years so it's held it's value well.

G coupes in good condition and low miles sell for a lot more than $18K. The recent US/CDN currency factor has had a negative impact for sellers of all Canadian used and new car prices however.

When you purchase such an expensive item (I did also), there is no point in dwelling on the negatives. Really, you just have to enjoy it. If you dwell on these negatives, you're really going to live a miserable life.

Be happy you are one of a few that can actually purchase a vechicle at the price you got it. That makes it a limited item. Not everyone can do something like that.

Not knocking the Z but I think the depreciate quicker then the G, just cause there's so many used Z's on trader. I'm looking at G's on trader and they still sell pretty decent depending on the milleage on the car.

Not alot of poeple buy new cars for an investment. Most cars lose lots of thier value in the first 5 years. The odd cult car like RX 7 and Supras hold thier value better due to scarcity especcialy ones with minimal mods.

got on 03 coupe around 7 months ago for just under 35k and now I'm seeing ads from respectable dealerships for 06 coupes with all options going for under 25k and I dont even wanna mention prices for other 03/04 coupes. I feel literally sick to my stomach after realizing it all.

I know! it just sucks how you spend so much when all I had to do was wait a few months. Who ever wouldve thought it was going to depreciate that much! I shouldve got that twin turbo Supra 5 yrs ago. I bet it would be worth the same today! It sucks cause my monthly payments are roughly $580. Its been about 10 months now so I basically shaved off $6000 from $33,000. Which means I still owe $27,000 on an 03 which is crazy cause these things go for about $20 or less now!! So lets just say If I were to trade it in for lets just say an 08 G37...even though I owe another $27,000 this car depreciated so low that they'd give me like $19,000 or something crazy like that.. I would lose big time. But *sigh* I guess I can just keep it and not worry about it and just be happy with it...which I am dont get me wrong. Its a great car. I just cant believe how much it went down and other imports arent going down THAT fast.!
