Same here. Schools are closed and it hadn't started. H ws getting into her car and one of the neighbours hollered out that school was closed. She was pretty surprised. It's the second day this week and the fourth this year.

They're expecting a wallop I guess.

Some Halifax stats:

Our city snowplowing budget of 12.8 M has been exhausted now and we're dipping into the reserve budget of 2.3M.

the budget was for:

3 major snow storms (over 15 cms)
5 average storms (5-15 cms)
7 minor storms (under 5 cms)
3 freezing rains
40 saltings

We have had so far:
5 major snowstorms
8 average storms
11 minor storms
7 freezing rains
32 saltings
(that's 24 snow storms so far)

The record we seem determined to break this year is 435.4cm (over 14 feet) in 70/71. T.0.'s record year is 207cm, somewhere back in the '30s.

Yeah, we're getting our fair share.

Wow, you are getting hit too. Where did you get these stats?
I found some at environment Canada. Mine said the annual snowfall/rainfall averages were:

ottawa 202 cms/733mm
toronto 133/209
calgary 106/106
halifax 151/1356
saint john 256/1396

According to Environment Canada, Saint John averages 293cm (over 9'6") annually, so you could easily have received as much as us, or even more.
That sh*t is sneaky.

Schools are closed here as well and it's currently snowing very hard. Needless to say, I am working from home today.

Jeez, I never would of guess that our average snowfall would be that much........especially in recent years. I doubt we had anymore than 30-45 cms of snow all of last year.

Snowfall stats seem to be like gas mileage - the more places you look, the more results you get.
That also seems to apply to different places within the same website!

Also from E.C.:

http://atlantic-web1.ns.ec.gc.ca/cli...n&n=7A6129C7-1

"At Saint John the season's average snowfall of 293 cm occurs on 59 days between the middle of November and the middle of April."

I hear the old-timers at work constantly brag about some snowfall in 1970's (southern onatrio). And how this years snowfall pales in comparison. Ive seen pics and definetly believe it was indeed as bad as it sounds. Can anyone confirm/deny it was worse than this years? Stats/Weather canada website is brutal for historical stats.

yeah, on the stats I found you guys win the prize for snow and rain.

Winter weather here varies tremendously. We have had years with no more than 20 cms of snow and others with 300+. White Juan in feb '04 gave us 90cm in less than a 24 hour period which is reported as the most ever for a Canadian city in that time frame.

Snow has started lightly here now. Stay safe.

The snow just started turning to rain so I went out and snow blowed the driveway. We got close to 20cms I would say. The banks at the end of my driveway are getting almost too high to blow the snow over.

We only got about 8-10cms and the rain is nearly zero so far. The real stuff starts about 8pm.

Well you must have had a lot of snow disappear last night. We did. I see Saint John had 73 mms of rain. We had 38 and one heck of a lot of wind.

Hope you got the G outside last night for a free wash. Our vehicles did.
