G35 in the shop again today

They gave me an '07 FX35 loaner. Not sure I could live with it - noisy, rough and darty. Exhaust noise is constantly intruding, rising above the high ambient wind and road noises. I especially liked the involuntary lane-change under braking due to ruts.

Sounds like that one has been driven pretty hard. I ask for the FX when I take my car in for service, will probably be my next vehicle by fall.

Yeah, +1 with above..... sounds very uncharacteristic for an FX

I had an FX as a loaner last time my G was in for service and it was great! Just loved driving it and would definitely not mind having one.

G's getting an alignment. I've been telling them it doesn't track right on each of the prior service visits and now they're putting it on the rack.

FWIW, the FX has only 12k on it and aside from a small ding in the LR corner seems to have not been thrashed at all. The handling is very tight and it hauls pretty well, but the sounds are off-putting. I'd get tired of the exhaust drone pretty quick - I actually had to turn off the radio since the drone was mixing harmonics into the sound no matter how loud or quiet the radio was, probably due to the open cargo area.

I am real surprised with your impressions of the FX also. I have driven a few and have considered a FX for a possible replacement for my G35X in the future. I was impressed with the handling and I really liked the exhaust tone.

Don't get me wrong, the exhaust note itself is fine, just that you can hear it too much inside the car, even to the point that it affects the sound from the radio. Also, louder exhaust bothers me more with an auto, less with a stick due to the rpm fluctuations you get with the auto. I had a SuperSprint system on my M5 (5MT...) and it was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Yes, the FX is a nimble handler but compared to the G is quite crashy on bumps. It's possible the tires are pumped up too high - I'd check but my gauge is in the G.

you would HATE driving a coupe then. I've driven the FX and the coupe is so much louder.

Auto probably, stick maybe, maybe not. I don't hear the exhaust on the G at all unless the windows are down.

Perhaps I need to join the COFC early - where's my membership card?

Got my car back this AM - much better tracking now. Toe was a bit out but the camber and caster were within range.

Cool features on the FX: the xenon headlights have a control to set their height lower when there's a load in the back, reversing camera. The interior is a bit dated - when's the next version coming out?

It's going to be unveiled at the Geneva Auto show in 2 weeks, should be out for the fall.

Same here. I've had one for a full day while mine was serviced. I couldn't get over how sporty it was for a SUV. The exhaust is pretty well the same as my coupe. Other than being impractical for us I wouldn't mind having one.
