PCV valve replacement needed for G35?

Hello Guys,

Here comes another noob question.. please don't just scream at me and redirect my thread to the SEARCH button.. believe me...i have done it already and can't seem to find the answer in the previous threads....

I recently contacted a local carshop aruond my neighborhood and the mechanic there recommends a PCV Valve service (replacement) since there is about 60,000miles on my 04 G35 Coupe 5AT by now

however, i have read through the service manual, infinitihelp.com, even did a full search on various G35 car forums and no where it mentions that G35 needs to have this service done..

so here my quetion is, what is PCV valve replacement? is it necessary to do it for a g35 or it is somethign like timing belt change (which is not needed for G35 since we got a cool timing chain that will never break)

if the answer to above question is yes, then at what interval should it be performed and how much does it cost (in CAD currency?)

any ideas/answers are welcome here and I once again, appreciate your help and expert opinions.

It's located on the passenger side valve cover.

You will see a hose connected to it.

It cost me $8 to change it on my F-150.
Shouldn't be much more from Nissan.

Here's an article that explains more.

PCV

PCV valves are generally considered a maintenance item like spark plugs, and should be inspected and replaced periodically (typically every 50,000 miles). The PCV valve siphons blowby vapors from the crankcase into the intake manifold so the vapors do not escape into the atmosphere. One of the beneficial effects of PCV, besides eliminating blowby emissions, is that it pulls moisture out of the crankcase to extend oil life. Moisture can form acids and sludge which can cause major engine damage. So if the PCV valve or hose plugs up, rapid moisture buildup and oil breakdown can result.

Yes, absolutely needed for automatics as well as manuals......

The pcv is part of the pollution control system and may not be specifically mentioned but still should be replaced.

Smartidiot, at your mileage it's not a bad idea for a few dollars invested.

Consider it preventive maintenance, rather than waiting for a problem.

...(like I had on my F-150)

Very simple. Shouldn't cost more than 10 bucks to change

Curious...
I went looking through the service manual; couldn't find any reference to the PCV at all.

^Interesting. There are a few things missing/wrong in the owners manual maintenance also. IIRC even the rear diff isn't there on a regular schedule. The coolant is recommended every 2 years and it's 5 year OEM blend.

Pull it out while idling. If no suction, replace ASAP. WIll cause blow-by if clogged. Read: oil consumption.
