How high are you gas prices compared to the USA?

Does it vary significantly regionally and in rural vs. metropolitan areas?

Also, you guys probably gas up by liters (litre in your English?), right?

Right now the average in the US is $3.16 a gallon for low grade (I think that's like 87 octane).

Do you guys call it petrol up there?

1 litre = 0.264172052 US gallons
1 gallon = 3.78541178 litres

So the average US gas price right now is $0.835 USD per liter.

Do we talk with right British accent too?

We get taxed out the *** on gasoline purchases here. In Alberta we pay 5% GST+$.10 National Gasoline Tax +9% Provincial Gasoline Tax. We're the only province with out an additional provincial sales tax.

Here is the question .... does the price still change during the day? When I was in Vancouver a few years ago the prices would change during the day... is that still the case... I remember it was a BIG differnce.

Higher.

It varies by up to about 10%. Alberta doesn't charge sales tax making theirs always the lowest. Rural normally pays 1-2% more.

Yes, liters.

Not sure what the average is in Canada but likely around 1.10/liter or about $4.16 /US gallon using money @par. In my city it is now 1.179 or $4.46/gal

No, this is Canada. We call it gas. You're thinking of Britain.

We would have lineups -- and possibly riots -- to buy gas here for 83.5/litre.

yes, the price changes throughout the day in Vancity. it is usually highest in the morning/early afternoon, but drops by 2-5 cents for the drive home. also, it is somewhat variable depending on what part of greater Vancouver you're in.

i filled up last night at Chevron, $1.159/L for regular (minus 3.5 cents discount). I can't remember what my 92 octane cost, probably ~$1.22/L.

That's interesting... in the US the less populated areas generally seem to have lower gas prices.

I can't speak for all of Canada but it's definitely the case in my Province.
