I could be mistaken but I think all XuperXero was implying is what we generally know about insurance companies and how they determine our premiums. There are many variables taken into consideration. The obvious ones being age, driving experience and driving record.
My understanding is that auto insurance providers also largely base our rates on regional criteria. For example, an urban center like Toronto will have higher insurance premiums than Rothesay, Fredericton or Saint John. They assume, based on statistics, that you are more likely to have an accident due to population, number of vehicles and other distractions. They also know your vehicle has a better chance of being stolen or damaged in T.O. (I still can't understand why 4milllion people want to be neighbours)

We all know or hear of how beautiful our east coast provinces are. I can't wait to travel there myself.

I understand that premiums will more than likely be higher in a place like Toronto than where I live, however that wasn't what Johnny was asking. If I understand his post correctly, he was stating that having a deductible in the $300-$500 range wasn't possible for him at all. I have never heard of someone not being able to get a lower deductible if they are willing to have a higher premium. Maybe Matt can comment on this since it's up his alley.

Johnny, I double checked my policy and my deductible is actually $350, not $500 like I originally quoted.

You are right Garnet. Based on your region the base deductible will start at x amount of $ but you should always have the option to pay more to lower x.

That is correct. Let's look at GTA. Scarborough has the HIGHEST insurance rate out of all of GTA. IIRC, Mississauga or Brampton has the lowest.

And yes, I seem to have misunderstood Johnny's posts.

Oh Wayne, blaming me for our high insurance now eh? Not my fault for getting "careless driving" ticket when I'm going 85 on a 60 zone. The cop was very biased, and even a bit racist (I'm asian).

It is possible that his insurance company had a bad claims experience for that type of car and they want to give him the higher deductible.
We will also give people a higher deductible if they have a lrge frequency of claims as well.

GTA has some of the highest rates in the country. Each company has different rates for different parts of Toronto. For instance, my rates are crappy in Brampton but are great in Scarborough. If company looks at its claims experience in different regions and bases a rate on that. In the GTA you will find huge swings in companies prices in the same region.
There isn't really a "max" deductible for any region though.
When I quote a policy 99% of the time it has a $500 deductible for collision and $300 for comprehensive. Some people like to have a $100 deductible on comprehensive because virtually all glass shops will waive a $100 deductible on glass and it will cost you nothing.
Lower deductibles mean higher premiums because you are not sharing as much of the risk. It might be worth you guys asking your companies how much your price will change with changing the deductibles.
You may be pleasantly surprised.
Happy Easter everyone
Matt

Oh my god, you guys are AWESOME!!!!!!!

I posted that question earlier today and the replies are pouring out. What would I do without you guys?!

To confirm, yes, it's true, The Personal refuses to give me less than 1000 deductible because they say it's a G35X and that's how it is for this car. All my other cars were never an issue. my other car (an 02 camry is currently 500, same policy). You guys got me thinking, I should try calling again, talk to a different person and try to lower that (I soooo agree that 30/yr is worth a 500 lower deductible). Also, I must mention that I have a surprisingly clean record (no accidents / tickets in past 3yrs)

I just feel more unsafe on the road with the higher deductible. And Garnett Canuck, WOW, 350, I am so gonna bust their ***** to get that dropped.

Guys, you rock, thatnks for the inputs, I know this will save me one day. I'll let you know how it goes, at least I know now there is no such thing as "The G35X has a MAX deductible of 1000".

I was 22 when I bought my coupe last November. Prior to which, I have been insured as either an occasional or primary driver for the nearly 6 years.

I currently pay ~200$ a month.

Which to my surprise was lower than being insured with my old Mitsubishi Lancer. A security system (GPS tracking), in addition to the historical crash/claim rate of the car worked in G's favour.

I was with personal for 7 years until they dropped me like a rock for 4 minors.

3 speeding 10 over and 1 non-moving violation, all minor. 0 claims.

I would say that price is fair. Infact that might even be on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

Getting a G liscense should be able to shed around 20-40 off that.
