Advice needed on dealer labour for COLD AIR INTAKE.

I am from Toronto ON and next will be having the dealer install a stillan cold air long tube system. Now I would love to install it myslef with my buddy, but it will void the warrenty unless the dealer installs it. The dealer is telling me it is going to take 2 hours to put it in, witch I think is pretty long for an infiniti tech. I don't mind paying the two hours labour to keep my warrenty in place. But I think they ae milking me for an extra hour. What do you guys. think????

The intakes are costing me $550 plus labour they are saying $700 -$750 installed. I know the intake are $550 and that is normal for Toronto. But the labour seems incorrect.

Installing the intakes yourself, if done correctly, should not void the warranty. They would have to prove how and why the warranty is voided.

The statement that an intake will void your warranty if not installed by the dealer is TOTAL BS. If you had an issue the burden of proof is on the dealer to show that your modification was the root cause. Read up on the Magnusson Moss act and save yourself some coin:

uh in case you missed it, he's in canada. us law doesn't apply there (magnuson-moss act). regardless go over the fine print of your warranty and figure out what the deal is in canada.

I'm assuming you are purchasing the intake from a dealer. I have one on my car and I installed it myself. My dealer never asked me a question about it, nor did they deny any warranty claims.

the dealer is trying to hose you. first on the fact that they must do the install or your warranty is void, that is not true. that would mean that 95% of the people in this forum would have void warranties - which is not the case. second, a dealer should not take 2 hrs. 1 hr would be more than enough time for this install. in actuality it will probably take them ~1/2 hr, but you never get charged the actual time it takes.

if they are saying that the 2hr time charge comes out of their chargeout book, ask to see it. i doubt there is an official dealer chargeout for a mod like this so they are making up their own.

if you assert yourself and don't swallow their BS, i think you will find you and buddy installing the intake and enjoying your new intake with an extra $250 in your pocket.

btw, this is a huge amount of money to spend on an intake. are they really $550? i hope it's worth it...

I would install it yourself and save the cash for some other mods. Cold air intakes are very easy to install.

Do the install yourself. Don't let the dealer take advantage of you.

I installed my Stillen intake myself, took about 30 minutes, fairly easy install.
My dealer hasn't given me any grief about it either.

Seriously... in USD thats like 545... which is WAYYY too much for an intake... (unless you are getting an ARC or something)... now... why dont you buy a used / new one from the US... and install it yourself? leave the dealer out of it man... seriously if you paid 50 to ship + 300 for the intake (too much already imo) thats 350 which is 200 off how much you will pay just for the intake...'

just my 3 cents

Thanks guys I called infiniti to tell them not to install the Cold air intake. I wll take the kit from them still though. I am getting the top of the line stillen cold air intakes with long polished tube. The short tube system is a lot cheaper but the long tube look better, and give almost double the power gains.

Thanks for the advice once again, I thought it was odd, but wanted to make sure before I get into it with the dealer.

Double the power gains? Like what, going from 1 hp to 2 hp? Stillen seems to be notorious for overstating the power gains from your products. Other than sound, I am not sure you will gain a whole lot. Also wouldn't a long metal tube be susceptible to heat soak. You would have gotten more bang for your buck with a plenum spacer.
